We just build a detached garage - it couldn't be attached (not enough side yard) and so it had to be behind the house (per bylaws). It's a great space for a car and workshop - 18 by 24 ft. The roof pitch and materials (steel shingles) match our home. But the DILEMMA - what colours and materials for the garage exterior??!! It's built on a slab, we cannot use brick; it will likely be clad with Maibec - siding/shingles.

Our idea: We need to tie in the white siding and red brick and the colour of the shutters on the house (which we will paint to match our chosen colour for the garage). So - white trim and white garage door (carriage door style); shingled skirt - reddish-brown colour to match our brick - on the bottom 4 ft of garage walls; dark grey-green shutters on house and use a slightly lighter tint for the upper part of garage walls. Accent the gable end of garage to match our front porch.

What do you think? I wish I could draw.... it's hard to picture!
