Pendant lights over dining room table

I have a 9 foot by 3.5 foot table in a dining room that has the open concept, I have NOT found a chandelier that I love, so I am thinking of going with 3 17 inch pendant lights spaced over the table, my question is, is it OK to put 3 pendant lights over the island (that is 10x5) then too?

IMO it depends on many things. The pendants themselves, your style the table so posting some pics would be nice . Keep in mind you would now have 3 electrical boxes in the ceiling for the table and the island. It also depends on how close these are to eachother but without pictures of the space and the pendants I have no idea.

This is the layout - disregard the cabinets in the dining room- we took that out so we could put a larger table in that space .

This is the table just in a different color !

It would be too busy based on the close proximity to each other.

Have you picked out your pendant lighting for the island yet? If so, post it and we might be able to come up with some ideas for the table.

I haven’t yet but only found the ones for the dining table - what about 2 instead above island ? I just didn’t like any chandeliers over that table area - so I thought oversized pendants would look better -

Post a photo of the ones you like for the dining table.

This is the oversized ones I was thinking -

I've been trying to find you some visuals so you can get an idea of what it would look like having multiple lights over the table and the island and both being so close to each other. I didn't find exact set-up as yours but at least this might give you an idea.

Don't look at the table placement. This represents more the direction and closeness your pendants would be.

I assumed that you are looking at having more one of those pendant above the table?

Yes, I feel the table is so big that it needs more balance....like 2~ what would you suggest doing? Or how would you do the lighting? I am so lost on this right now~ I have been researching this for day with still no idea of what I should do ~ lol

Only a day??? I'm going to pop over to another island lighting posting where there were some houzzers with some great ideas and came up a solution for her. I'll see if I can get them to come over here and see if we can come up with a solution for you.

    opps DAYS~ and DAYs

Seriously DAYS~ at some point I am thinking NO island lights except for can lights lol~

I’m not sold on that or anything currently- even the ones I posted - but my electrician is on me about lights and placement blah blah blah - so I’m drawing at straws for some thing !

I like the linear lantern pendant over the table.

Like the flynn pendant! I suggested it on the other post tedbixby is referencing. Not a huge fan of pendants over both island and dining. What do you think about flynns over your table and a chandelier over your island instead? (Although I think the Flynns over the island in the second pic look great).

Anything could work if the fixtures were completely different from each other, but that look may be more transitional/eclectic:

I like the idea of can lighting over the island and doing something really amazing over table two fixtures would be beautiful. Or a cluster of lighting..

I was kinda thinking the same~ well I have been thinking TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many things and trying to come up with something~ My cabinets are Blackish~ more of a charcoal color, with Granite that is white, with black, grey, beige mixed in it,. I was too thinking JUST the cans too, but I thought that the NEW style was to put big lights up........was trying to stay "cool" lol or stylish, up to date! So do you all think it will still look Nice~ stylish without island lights, or what would you do with this space?

I should say one more thing~ the island on the plans is not the island I have~ the architect mess up on that, its actually 10 x 5

And in the next few yrs the NEW style will be little lights... don't get mixed up with what is in now. If you put in what you love, you'll be happier with it and you'll live with it longer than what is in today, out tomorrow. '

Looking at your floor plan, it appears that the first thing that you see when you enter your home will be the dining room table? If so, I think your lighting there is more important and needs to make the statement more so than what is over the island.

Do you have you budgeted for the dining light and island pendants?

Budget ? Ha - I’m supposed too, but I haven’t been in budget thus far; why whatcha have in mind ? Like I said, I’m still pondering all things- fast, as I have an unhappy electrician-

Anything like this? Note the pendant behind it, too. Understated but still makes a statement. Don't know if you have thought about your hardware finish yet.

Hi Stephanie. What is your ceiling height over dining table and island? Has recessed lighting already been roughed in? What is the wattage on the pendant you were considering over table?
