I'd think more about wall decor and better lighting. The rugs are fine as is.

I'm so curious about the column with the vines! What's the style of the rest of your home?

I'd say change the lighting, maybe a different wall color, and to break up the floor and wall colors by doing white on your baseboards. Walls seem a little bare as well, so adding a couple decorative pieces will also help. The smallest things can make the biggest differences.

I like the rugs you have now and would not think solid rugs would help. Have you tried pulling them apart just like the ones in the first and last photos above? I agree that large art (at the correct height) would make your hallway much more interesting. The idea of painting the door at the end sounds good too. Try draping the door with a piece of fabric (blanket, sheet, even a dress or anything large enough to cover the door) and stand at the other end to see how it looks.

Horizontal stripes in a rug will visually widen the hall way. Doors and woodwork the white you have now…try painting the walls a light, but warm yellow with red undertones. Don't be afraid of a darker wall…woodwork and doors will be highlighted (as in interesting).

The door at the end of the hall…front entry? Paint it dark so the end looks closer to you…therefore, shorter hall.
