Lavender Tan mini

last modified: 8 years ago

I bought a darling little “oddball” rose from Home Depot last night. They had a display of little Valentine mini gift roses for $4.99. Most were the usual colors, but one was special. It also had the worst looking foliage. It wasn’t terrible, but it had a few yellowed spotty leaves, while the others looked glossy and spotless. I bought it anyway, since I like the coffee colors, as long as there’s no orange involved. I’m hoping to fix it up(like I said, it’s not in really bad shape) and display it near my ‘Cafe Olé’, ‘Pam’s Choice’, and my two ‘Little Gray Pearls’. Any one have any idea what this little Home Depot rose could be? There’s no tag at all. Thanks, Lisa

I’m not sure, but I’m about to find out! It has several more buds that are close to opening. I hope they’re lavender/tan, but you could be right. If not, it’s no great loss. It was only $4.99, and I just got 2 ‘Little Gray Pearls’, and ‘Pam’s Choice’. I’m happy to have them. The new buds are very pale colored. Lisa

I found one of those at our Grocery Outlet a couple months ago. Thought I was getting a mauve & tan mini. Got it home and realized it was just the petals turning brown probably from being so cold. So I figured hey, I was saving it... It ended up dying on me because I left it out in the front breezeway and it got too cold and I forgot to keep it watered. I gotta stop doing that. I buy these impulse mini roses at the outlet and don't get around to potting them up and then they die. I'll be interested to see what yours turns out like when it blooms again Lisa!

That just might be what happened to me too, Beth. I thought I was finding a treasure. This is the bloom that’s almost open this morning. It’s raining(YAY), so these blooms might be rain damaged. It sure looks light compared to the first blooms. We’ll see as it opens. They rain is slowing down and should end in the next hour or two, then a few sunny days, until more rain:) Lisa

Hmmm... looks interesting. Still kinda on the tannish-side. Maybe it will be an "oddball" colored one after all! Can't wait to see more pics.

I think the new bud is really pretty! I hope they all stay like that.

I’ve set it out in a sunnier spot to dry out the petals a bit. Our temps are uncharacteristicly chilly for this time of year, so the buds are slower to open than I’m accustomed to. When I bought it, I could see that it was a weaker plant, than all the others. This one was the only one that had a few yellow/spotted leaves near the bottom. I actually took that to be a sign that it might actually be a lavender/tan rose, because those are often weaker plants overall.

I noticed this morning that one of the buds, on one of the four plants in the tiny container has a red bud. That one is obviously not the same variety as the lavender/tan. Of course that plant looks the healthiest! I can see that these lighter buds are not very rain tolerant. I think when it rains again on Friday, (I hope) I’ll shelter it on the patio.

Here’s this morning’s picture. Thanks for your interest! I’m really curious myself. That table was loaded with little roses, but only one like this. Lisa

I’m sitting in the Dr.’s office waiting for my turn, and remembered this thread. My little rose hasn’t done much of anything! We’ve had cool temps and some rain. The blooms are definitely NOT rain tolerant! They ball and mildew badly. So much so, that every bloom has failed to open. None have progressed further than the last picture I posted. They are that odd creamy color, with lilac/pink highlights. I’ll have to wait and see what warm and dry weather brings. Meanwhile, I’ll pot it in a larger container, so it doesn’t dry out so quickly. There’s way too many plants in that tiny container. I’ll post pictures if anything interesting develops. Lisa
