Use the tile. It will be beautiful & easy to clean if you use good grout. Do you have to seal the tile?

Another vote for all tile backsplash. Mixing the backsplash materials would make your kitchen too busy.

it's not a horrible idea, but let me comment on a few things. that granite piece is prob thicker than your tiles. are you prepared to have the stove piece proud of the others or do you plan on using a thicker substrate to bring the tiles forward to be even with it? what are you going to edge the stone with for borders?

Why don't you tape it up there and put a few tiles around it to see how you like it?

it will make cleaning a breeze, but the space is rather small, so I'm thinking just carrying the tile all the way across may look a little better.

For sure use the tile! The granite will break up the smallish space too much & make it look choppy and disjointed. The granite it beautiful but keep it to the countertops only in my opinion. Gotta love thrifty efficient husbands lol! Mine is as well & doesn't ever want to waste anything. Can't blame them really, and I sometimes I even agree with my own husband at times, but in your case you probably woulnd't want to sacrifice the look of a very expensive kitchen reno just to save a few bucks! It could destroy the end result and your entire look of your kitchen. I imagine you want to be happy with it in the end and not have regret. Using the granite would sort of be like the proverbial 'cutting your nose of to spite your face'. I just went through similar debates with my husband when choosing pendant lights. Perhaps save the piece of stone for a bathroom vanity or use for a new table top on a coffee table or end table. Or just give it to a friend. You could even sell it on Craig's list which might make your husband happy. Using just tile alone will create a very nice flow around the parameter of the room making it looks larger and more cohesive.

butt the tile against the granite piece. How much a difference is there? now find a liner piece that will transition the two different heights.

That big diagonal line in the granite would drive me nuts....

Tile. I love a slab as a backsplash but this is a (no offense!) frilly traditional kitchen and it deserves the more dainty tile. It wants the tile. Save that nice piece of stone for somewhere else.

Man that is a nice easy-to-clean backsplash, for sure, but the looks of that would drive me up a wall. Plain white would be ever so much better. Still, I would prefer all the same.

Don’t care for the granite chunk behind stove. I would do tile.

Do white subway tile. You won't get tired of it. And it will let your counters be the start in the kitchen. If it seems too boring, set it in a pattern. Here is a picture on beveled subway tile in a herringbone pattern. It is beautiful without competing with the countertop. The beveled tile reflects the light and is anything but boring. Good luck.
