Usually the larger the bamboo when it's transplanted the greater the set back. If the landscaper dug up the whole plant there'd be less damage to the root system than if he hacked out part of the clump. So depends on how he did the job. You may lose most of the top of the plant but they're quite tough and it should come back from the roots.

How is the bamboo now?

Leaf drop is typical with a newly dug divisions as there is typically not enough energy stored in the rhizomes to support life for the entire plant. When I take divisions I typically top the culms down to 6-8 feet as this aids in recovery.
