Why do beginners struggle so much with indoor plants?

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and recently started getting more into growing (tropical) plants indoors. I’m trying to better understand how beginners experience this, especially why it often seems harder than expected.

From what I’ve seen so far, a lot of people struggle with things like:

  • Not enough light
  • Overwatering
  • Placing plants in the wrong spot

But I’m still trying to figure out where the real issue lies.

👉 Do you think beginners mostly fail because they don’t fully understand what they’re doing?
👉 Or because their environment (light, humidity, etc.) just isn’t suitable in the first place?

And if you had to pick one:

👉 What’s the biggest mistake beginners make with indoor plants?

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences — really trying to learn from people who’ve been through it.

Thanks in advance!
