Help with knobs and pulls

I really don't know what to do with this. Cabs will be shaker extra white (uppers) and birch (lowers), backsplash light blue glass, white corian counter, stainless appliances, and bright blue floor. I'd like to use copper as an accent. My kitchen won't look like this, but these are the colors, plus the blue.

What do I do for handles? Stainless is the obvious choice, but what style? I am drawn to simple and modern styles like the above and these:

but they also seem kind of boring.

Since my cabs will be two-toned, I don't suppose I can use 2 different types of handles. Would that be too much? I think copper pulls would look great on the white cabs but maybe not on the birch. Or maybe some bright blue ones? SS pulls and blue knobs? Hailp!

Your choice of more blue on the backsplash gave me pause, so I'd say definitely no on a colored knob. I think I'd like thin, simple ss pulls on drawers and minimal looking ss knobs on doors.

It will be a pale blue that complements the floor, with glass panel. Pretty simple. You're probably right about the handles. Do the squared off ones hurt to pull on? I like them better than the rounded ones.

I've read here that the square knobs can spin making them wonky and making the homeowner crazy. But the more expensive ones might have some kind of extra grip to avoid the spin? Can't remember for sure, but something to look out for.

Oh! I reread. you probably mean squared off pulls, huh? It would be worth going to a showroom to try out different styles.

I've had square knobs on my cupboards for 7 years and they have never turned a smidgen.

I used both pulls and knobs but they are of the same metal.

    Mayflowers, like a cup pull?

And if I go for long pulls, can I do them on the uppers too (2nd pic)? I prefer them over knobs. And what length would look best? The long ones that go almost the whole length of the front or shorter ones like in the close-up picture?

No, not a cup pull. A C pull exactly like the one in your photo.

I've never cared for the oversized bar pulls but I have seen them on uppers. In a C pull, a large pull may look very chunky and be very pricey.

Top Knobs calls them D pulls. Here is their stainless selection.

I wrestled with the same question about pulls on uppers and decided to put relatively long (~6") pulls on the uppers. They match the pulls on the lower doors and narrower drawers. While I prefer the look of smaller hardware on uppers, the functionality of having a bigger handle won me over. Also, some brands of pulls protrude different distances depending on the length, so a slightly longer one gives you more "hand space" behind the pull.

If you remember seeing Badgergal's kitchen, she used even longer pulls than I did on her uppers (same pulls though).

And you probably thought of this, but if you select bar pulls for lowers, make sure they won't catch your clothing. (I picked those initially, bought one to test, and DH promptly got snagged by the loop on his cargo pants!)

I don't care for cup pulls. I tend to prefer a rounded bar-type, like this one. I have tried lots of them in the stores, and find the bars that are squared off are uncomfortable to me. And I don't think 6" is long at all. My drawers are 24" and 30" wide - I am going with at LEAST a 6" pull, probably closer to 7".

My absolute favorite is this one, but everyone tells me that it is too traditional for my kitchen. :-(

Oh good. I don't really want cup pulls. They do go with the period of my house, and we have them on our built-ins upstairs, but I didn't really want them in my kitchen.

Thanks for the insights. I do need to go somewhere and try the various ones. I guess that's next on my list!

Whatever you do don't buy pulls that stick out. They get hung up on your clothing and whatever else is hanging, they rip pockets and belt loops. If you do some digging you will see people complaining about the ones that stick out. I suggest ones that are rounded off.

Once like this are what I am talking about - avoid:

The same thing happens to knobs on drawers if they are on the lower cabinets. Every single one got hung up on something.

I am putting pulls on the drawers and doors instead of knobs.

Agree with the above. I see those pulls all over the place, and I would never have them for exactly that reason.

Good point. That would be so annoying.

You don't want to know how many pants and jackets we have ruined with ones that stick out. Those ones that stick out are shown all over the place in advertising. They suck.

I like this, a bit sleeker than the rounded ones.
