Wow, you have a beautiful example of a mid century ranch home! I would try modernizing it through paint or landscaping before doing any major architectural changes.

Thanks for the replies. We have been putting off the landscaping until we decided on the roof. While we love the mid century lines of the home we are trying to avoid the feeling of needing to duck under the entry overhang.

The front of the house faces north. We're in the Pacific Northwest so no real issues with sun or extreme temps:)

Looking back now I see the typo in my original comment. The correct terminology here would be low pitch "Gable". Just a point of clarification :-)

Agreed with Keith that bringing a small, shallow gable forward above your front door seems like a relatively easy fix if all you are concerned about is headroom above your front door (see quick iPhone edit of your photo below).
