Do Velux venetian blinds keep a room cooler?

I just installed manual vented skylights in a room that gets intense afternoon sun. I don't want to spend money on solar-operated blinds, because these skylights are in an eave and very accessible. The only manual blinds Velux offers for vented skylights are metal venetian blinds. Does anyone have experience with these? Are they effective at keeping a room cooler? Salespeople at Velux are very reluctant to commit to the potential energy savings of their venetian blinds. Thanks for any advice.

Any solar shade should have that effect on reducing radiant heat. Was the skylight specified with Low-e glass here? That should have a massive impact on solar heat transmission as compared to a clear glass unit.

Hi Windows on Washington. Appreciate the response. The skylight does have Low-e glass. And just to confirm: metal venetian blinds should have a heat-reducing effect similar to that of cellular shades? Thanks very much.
