Master Bedroom Design Help Seriously Needed!

I am trying to “finish up” our master bedroom. We had to get new carpet and the king bed, dresser and duvet cover and shams were pieces I found that I loved from Ethan Allen. We had our first nights sleep in this after the mattress was delivered yesterday. But now I need nightstands, lamps, mirror for over the dresser, something over the bed and maybe a chair and art for that empty wall, a plant? A floor lamp? IDK and feel overwhelmed and kinda “stuck”. I saw a mirror I liked from EA but it’s $900. I can’t spend that after what we have spent so far. I also saw a piece of art my hubby and I both liked but it was too small. Wondering if any of you wonderful helpful peeps out there might be able to help me? Thank you so much.

Thanks frosted:). You are very kind.

Allanaspree - do you think rub n buff would work? The thing about the Manuel mirror is the nice distressed metallic. Are you good at DIY Dawn? Price difference is substantial.

I’m not good at it but a friend of mine is. She said modern masters has a line of metallic paint. I’m not sure yet. Yikes what if I don’t like it. She is pretty good at that stuff tho. I’ll sleep on it. Yea $200 is a good savings.

One thing I know for sure is that you won't create the exact same finish. Makes me nervous I must admit. Yes it is a substantial saving but it's also a substantial loss if it all goes wrong. If you really like it, wait for a sale to come up or save up some more or keep looking until you find something cheaper. Personally I wouldn't mess with it.

Yea I think your right allanaspree. I think I’ll just order it.
Dawn if you get it and you don't like it at least you can return it. The other way you are stuck with something you might not like. If it is too expensive just wait - there"s always a sale around the corner and honestly not having it immediately is hardly life changing....
This is very true:). I do feel like I need to put that mirror on that empty wall and a little styling on the dresser then I’ll be close enough to be being done for a while. The chair and floor lamp can wait as we can use the one that’s in there for the time being. I might just call and see if the can do any better price wise. Never hurts to ask.

Mirror has been ordered. Now I wait. Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I hope to plant up a few more spring pots here in Wisconsin!! Here is what I did last weekend. Hope to get a few more potted up for people.

Very nice Dawn - you are very creative. They look gorgeous.

Thanks Allana. I love doing containers. I just started doing Containers for a few businesses in the Milwaukee area. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. I’m going to see how that goes this year then maybe expand. I do it mainly for fun and the extra $$ I can use for my mirror!!

Keep potting Dawn & you may get a chair! Frosted - if only Dawn lived near you your brown thumb might turn green LOL

Ha I’ll try! I don’t know where either of you live. Frosted and allanaspree where do guys live? Here in Wisconsin we are going to finally have a few days in the 70s. We are so late with nice weather here.

LOL ASpree - wish I lived near WI so Dawn could help me. I'm in Arkansas now after 34 years in Colorado. I can't keep a plant alive inside or out. I may need to join a local small town group to learn. Love your skills Dawn Y....people with brown thumbs like me would welcome your talent!!!

Finally Alllana and Frosted the mirror is here. I love it!! The frame color is almost exactly like the frame on the art. It is a beautiful statement mirror for sure. It’s up already. Now I will style the dresser. Omg this room is just really coming along so well. Photos from different angles. It reflects my lovely lamps and the light from windows during the day.

Looking good Dawn. Pleased to hear that you are happy. How many pots = a chair?

Dawn! I'm so happy you went with this mirror. It's perfect and I love how it reflects the beautiful decor in your room. Well done. You must be so happy when you walk into your room. Gorgeous!

Dont get matching nightstands, in fact two different stands would look nice. Check out pictures on houzz
  • 8 years ago

Linda - Dawn already got her matching nightstands and they are beautiful! Especially with her new gorgeous lamps. :)

Late to the party, but I think you've made some great choices! Love how your room has evolved!

Thank you so much. I’m so happy and cannot thank Allanaspree enough. And frosted. So I’ll have to do ALOT of pots because first I’m going to get another injection in my bad knee and now insurance isn’t going to pay for it. Like they pick and chose. Never mind that it helped me. Oh well. At some point we’ll get that chair!!

Dawn - your knee is most important. You need an healthy knee to pot those plants!! I feel your insurance pain due to my back injections after surgery. Your room looks lovely as is and so do you! Love your profile pic btw. Take care of you and the rest will follow. A few dresser accessories and take a break. My company has been doing continued layoffs so I'm moving slow on my bedroom just in case, but love my portfolio of ideas ASpree and others have given to me when I'm ready. God Bless!

Sorry Dawn to hear about your knee injury - guess you won't be potting plants any time soon! I hope you have a speedy & easy recovery. You now have a vision/plan so you know where to head when the timing is right. And who knows by that time that chair may come on sale & the wait will be worth it. Take care.

Yea that aging thing is something I’m not liking. All the aches and pains. But the injection really helps so I’ll keep doing them even if I pay for them. The good news is that I can keep planting so far. So that is good. Cause I really like doing it. This client had a cool property. Here are a few pics. So many different places, pots and people. I just love it. Frosted I hope you don’t get laid off. Fingers crossed for you.

As soon as I find a few accessories I’ll post again for you to chime in on. Allana thanks again for your help. You have fantastic taste and are so talented. And so nice to help people like me. My hubby laughs at me cause I climb into bed early now and read and enjoy our new room. It’s so cozy and pretty now.

    Hugs to you both!!

Very pretty arrangements Dawn & just perfect for the style of the property. You obviously are very talented at this pot landscaping so you should nail the styling of the dresser but we will be happy to chime in if needed

    Hi Dawn,

I hope your knee will continue to feel better.

I love that mirror for your dresser. Your bedroom looks so pretty and inviting. Your room looks great already, but adding the chair Allana found and styling the dresser will be the icing on the cake. I am glad you are happy. Enjoy it!

    Thank you JD

Dawn. I am very late to this dilemma but I had to chime in and let you know that I have had both knees replaced. One 23 years ago and the other 19 years. I was given 10-12 years on each knee but I took good care of them and didn't abuse them. So I'm going to outlive my knees looks like. lol. I wanted to also let you know that Allanspree and Frosted are dear friends and you really got lucky having them to guide you in your project. It is really beautiful and I can't blame you for wanting to spend so much time in bed. What's wrong with with that???? Wish you good health and much happiness in the future.

Seajay that is really really long for replacement knees to last. Wow!! So good for you!! I am holding out as long as I possibly can before doing that. I am very active but bad knees run in my family. Every one on my Dads side have had a knee or 2 replaced. I’ve given up running, walking for exercise, jumping etc. I can lift weights and do low impact workouts. I love playing in my garden and I won’t give that up. I just have a hard time sitting still lol. EXCEPT for when I’m reading in bed in my new lovely bedroom!! I love your friends Allana and frosted. They have been so helpful and supportive. My bedroom would not have turned out this lovely without them!!
Your love of gardening is what prompted me to tell you to take care of your real knees. As you probably already know from family members, it’s really hard to crawl around on knee replacements. Keep up the good work and hopefully you can avoid any TKRs.
Oh my had no idea. No one in that side of the family gardens!! I will definitely take good care of them! Thank you!!
Allanspree where did you find those urns you put on my dresser ? Hope you’ve been well:)

Hi Dawn good to hear from you. I think...it was these from Uttermost. Uttermost have a lot of urns to choose from. Remember to measure up before you buy anything & perhaps put something of a similar height (eg vase) on the dresser to make sure you are getting the right size :)

Ah Uttermost. Should have know. We’ve found a lot of neat stuff from them. Thank you. I will measure out. I did find flowers and will post a pic once I can take one in the daylight. I’ve been busy planting and gardening and being outside. Hope you have been enjoying your summer as well.
Here is the floral arrangement I liked. Now something for the other side. I dint want slot if clutter or anything on my dresser.

That looks lovely Dawn & the mirror looks even better. Pleased to hear you are enjoying your potting and gardening in the sunshine - that chair will come your way one day if you keep this up!

Hi Dawn can you please share the name of the artist for the painting in your MB?

    Hi Allanspree
Unfortunately there is no name. We found at a local store McNabe and Risley. They find their accessories and art by going to some show and just picking pieces out. https://mcnabbandrisley.com/

Hope this helps. Hope you’ve been well!!

    Thanks Dawn

Purchased a chair for the corner. Not the one allanspree posted but one that has the same height and mass to it but about $500 less and we got to see it in person. We also purchased a second “piece” you might see on the floor..... a dog bed for our new rescue Annabelle.

Dawn your bedroom has come a long way. It now looks like a very restful and peaceful sanctuary as testified by Annabelle's reluctance to leave. She's gorgeous as is your room. Congratulations.

Dawn - I echo Allanaspree's comments. Love your chair and your bedroom turned out beautifu!!! Love that you rescued Annabelle. Most all of my family have rescued their dogs. She's lucky to have a spot in your peaceful and gorgeous room and home. Well done!!

Thank you both so much!! We spend a lot of time here at night reading before bed. She’s as happy and restful here as I am. Thanks so much for all your help. Hope you are both well!!
Hi Dawn. I didn’t contribute any inspiration for your room . . . just some well intentioned advice for your knees. LOL. But wanted to say how lovely your room turned out. Patience pays off but really hard to come by for many of us. Love Annabelle . . . anyone who rescues animals and gives them a good loving home is ok in my book. Congrats and stay well.

Hi Dawn, great start, everything dosnt have to match, I love chairs in a bedroom, Looks like you have space for a chair and small table. Looks quite formal to me, so by adding complimentary pieces without matching perfectly, it takes away from the formality, I think you were correct in not getting matching side tables. Maybe round will soften the hard edges, ambient lighting on the dresser, and or a floor lamp and chair in the corner. Lots of fun ideas for this space. Good luck, get what you love, have fun, best, Debra

Awww thanks seajay and I took your advice on my knees to heart too!!
    Here’s some ideas
Chair in corner would be nice
You have space on both sides of the bed for nightstands and lamps with smaller lampshades which won't block the window. I really enjoy looking at everything at Ethan Allen, but if your budget won't support that right now, there are plenty of lower-priced stores to visit instead. And there are lots of stores which sell art prints and paintings which you may like....art supply stores like Michaels, home stores like HomeGoods, flea markets, art and craft fairs. The nightstands and lamps would be what I would get next. You don't need a mirror in your bedroom, but you might hang an inexpensive long mirror on the inside of your bedroom door to check your outfit before leaving for the day.

Debra, Danielle and Felizlady - Dawn has finished her room. If you scroll down you will see the gorgeous room now with beautiful one of a kind art, nightstands, new lamps, new mirror over chest , new corner chair and lovely accessories. It's an awesome transformation!!

Yes. It’s done thanks to allanspree and a few others the help I received was so good and I am so thankful. Here are a few before and after pics. Used to be a mismatch blah look. I could probably still find something for the right side of dresser but overall it’s soooo much better.

    Looks great Dawn!
