All of my Hosta were smaller last year than the year before, voles and tree roots being the cause. Here’s T-Rex and Final Summation, the biggest ones I have.

Nope, going to build a fleece tent around her and triple wrap.

2 x heavy duty fleece.

1 x space blanket like the paramedics use.

One thing I did discover last year was that if the fleece touches the leaves the frost will still get through.

So, bigger than last years attempt.

I learned all about anything touching leaves results in frost when I tried to cover a hydrangea several years ago. I thought that if I just put a blanket over it that would be fine, but any leaves that the blanket touched were damaged by frost. Now I use garbage cans turned over and larger containers and make certain that nothing touches the shrub/plant, etc.

Elegans (I'm pretty sure)..someday my Empress Wu will be bigger than this..

Eola Sapphire - Leaves are usually 14"x 16". I like to keep it at about 10 eyes.

T-Rex in back. Last year leaves at 14 x 18.

Cerveza started swallowing everything around it last year.

I don't know the name of this Hosta, but it is one of my first I bought from vessey's 20 yrs ago. It was supposed to be T-Rex.

Not sure if these are true "giants" but they are my biggies. In a few years I should have a few more, I added Blue Mammoth, Empress Wu and Sum and Substance last year.

Great Giants.

My biggest giant counting both leaf and mound is probably Niagara Falls. One year when I was measuring there were quite a few leaves above 17 inches. It survived being transplanted a few years ago and now has the advantage of having elbow room - a rarity in my garden.

Green Gables (Sum and Sub sport) leaves have gotten to over 20" though the mound is not as enormous as others.

I am in trouble with the garden below. Every year I have to move some of the giants and very large ones out of the back row.

I am being swallowed by Hoosier Dome and Piedmont Gold in 2016

McT, your Niagara Falls is one of the hostas that started my obsession.

Garyz6ohio, your Green Dagonet is the kind of Hosta that keeps my obsession going. How old is it and what growing conditions is it in? I bought a Stingray, which is similar, for a special project but it didn’t grow much last year.
