The Spring Fling hasn't even been discussed yet, but most years it ends up being on the last weekend in April and, if not on that weekend, then on the next to the last weekend. I hope that helps with tentative, long-range planning.

I was going to text Paula the other day and realized I had lost her number when I did the last phone upgrade.

It wasn't anything important, I just hadn't seen her on here or FB in a while, so I wanted to check on her. And she often grows some interesting peppers and I'm curious what she may have come up with this year!

I planted some of my tomatoes seeds, and I have seedlings. We'll see if I can manage to get anything off of them before it gets too hot. I'll be keeping an eye out to see if everything will go as planned for the fling. I don't mind offering up my own place but I don't think I'm as centrally located.

As a side question. Has there been any threads on here about greenhouses? I'm looking at possibly purchasing a kit but I'm not sure how it will handle in our Oklahoma wind and hail. My husband can build it but the poor guy has his hands full with so many other projects right now.

Greenhouse Size

I have a home-made hoophouse style greenhouse. Well, we purchased a kit that had the plans, hardware, baffle tape, etc. and then bought our own lumber, PVC pipe and doors and carefully built it following the directions that came with the kit. It was not as hard or as time-consuming as we feared it would be, but we had a hard time during fire season (for a year or two or maybe even three, lol) finding the time to build it. I thought the kit would rot away sitting in the garage before we finally got about to building it. I've had it about 9 or 10 years now.

After discovering how quickly a greenhouse overheats even in winter, we then added shadecloth before the second Winter/Spring. It isn't fit to use this Spring, as the greenhouse plastic has shredded and is coming off. We keep intending to order new plastic and recover the frame, but keep running into the issue of having no time and never getting around to doing it. I'm sort of at the point now where I think I can live without it this Spring and just get it recovered before autumn arrives. Due to the heat in our climate, I use mine, at most, from October or November through the end of April, and most years even April is too hot in there, even with the doors and vents all open and ventilation fans running. The fabled greenhouse effect is real!

I will add that the market gardener recommends plastic sheeting instead of rigid. Cheaper to replace when needed

I'm assuming the greenhouse film lasts longer than film from Home Depot?

Dawn, could I ask where you got your kit from?

What about the woven polyethylene? I see that comes with one of the kits I looked at.
