In fact, the new flowers on what's supposed to be 'Glee' are the same as the ones on what I thought was 'Moon Scene'. Blarrgh.

Looks like Glee since you can see the Papilio heritage in the leaf shape, just not as pink stripes are not as strong as the promotional photos.

They must be using some exceptionally red ones for promo photos, because two bulbs of this so far have been very pale. Gervase right next to it is outshining it with bigger, vibrant flowers and more substance.

All Pictures of "Moon Scene" I found showed a very broad, conspicuous white midrib on the uppermost floral segment. Although the venation of the Bloom in the "bulb first received as Glee" is feathered and does indeed remind of "Moon Scene" it is clearly not "Moon Scene". Thank you for the documentation. The deficient Color Saturation of the Bloom is due to forcing indoors. The overall poorer Performance than expectable/desired is owed to deficient roots of a freshly planted bulb.

Hello Donna, is "Moon Scene" durable - a survivor, I mean? I am in love with this one. All that I do have is "Ambiance" which has proven to be a survivor.

I still have my Moon Scene from 2 years ago, still a good sized bulb but am waiting for it to decide to re-bloom again for me. Last fall it tried to send up a scape but it withered. I do think it would be good to hybridize with though and I plan to put papilio and perhaps Jungle Star on a couple of flowers for starters when it does bloom again.

I will admit though that my above picture is actually prettier than it really was, you know how now and then, you can take a good shot of a plain Jane flower and make it look better than it really was. At the time I remember I wasn't happy at all with the flowers but when I look at my pictures from 2 years ago, they look pretty good!! The pictures aren't edited in any way, I guess Moon Scene is just a plain Jane that takes a good picture!

I am very familiar with the phaenomenon which you call "plain Jane" - but there is also SOME other Hippeastrums which do the contrary. Thank you for your Report.

With the first one I received, speaking of roots, is that it put out a ton of roots early (circling the base of the pot in two weeks), and the leaves shot up extremely quickly, were and are much longer than every other bulb's (including the second Glee) and promptly flopped over). But it only put out one bloom stalk. It already has an offset, so this one seems a lot more interested in vegetative growth than blooming than the second.

Both of them had red blotch, but I think I removed all of the affected tissue.

Keep the pot protected from rain, water from below, and spray an insecticide with a permanent-effect onto the Substrate. In this respect, those preparations against ants are suitable, the Label on which indicates "efficient for several weeks".

That's the kicker, I get serious allergic reactions to most insecticides. :/ The rest is doable as I've got a covered patio.

Sold to me as 'Ambiance', but I always thought it must be 'Moon Scene'. This was grown outdoors in natural sunlight. The green centre was very intense.

The following year it was grown under some shade, and the flower looked quite different with a lot more red showing. So......does it still look like 'Moon Scene'? Or is it 'Ambiance' after all? What do you think?

The second picture reveals that it is "Ambiance". The similarity to "Moon Scene" in the upper Pictures is - astounding. These Images are great, thank you for your documentation.

Thank you for clearing that up. I have been wondering ever since I first had this bulb. I could never make up my mind over this one .
