I have had both. I liked the quartz because it is no maintenance and never scratched, chipped etc. also the color was constant, not vein-y as I had a very large area and don't want it to look leopardy. In my new home I have granite and it is lovely but it has chipped.

I have granite, low maintenance, and you can take a hot tray of lasagna out of the oven and place it directly on the counter since it can take the heat. Mine has never chipped.

Only issue with both is if polished finish be careful with citrus or foods with acidic juices! That can take the polish off! Lately customers are going with "honed" finished granite, marble and quartz.
