I wanted to open the wall between the kitchen and the dining room and put in a breakfast bar. The kitchen sink is on that wall an cannot be moved. My contractor has opened the wall as much as possible and has boxed in the pipes. I was going to cover the pipes with the same siding as the kitchen cabinets however, my contractor has suggested that since the column is right in front of the kitchen sink, water will splash and it's best to tile the column. It is a pretty sizable column. If I do tile it, does it have to match the backsplash?
