unfortunately changing the floor isn't in our budget right now. Just redid the floor in our living room/hallways!

I know I’m in the minority but I still like black. It’s also a neutral and so classy looking. It looks great with taupe or cream counters and flooring. White is so typical and grey just seems blah..just my opinion, ladies. :)

@Justone, I haven't ruled out black yet, but now I'm worried that my orange accents will make it look like Halloween!

I didn't think so Sara. I do a lot of pinning on Pinterest and I have a board called "Gray." You might want to check it out! I have a lot of great pictures of gray interiors!!

I too would avoid the Halloween look but unless those are very expensive pots I also wouldn't base your decision on incorporating the orange. They can always go in the cabinets.
That being said, I agree with everyone on the grey. I think the black with the backsplash having a lot going on will be too severe. If you want to keep the orange I am sure you are seeing that there are many beautiful grey and orange kitchens on houzz.

Thanks Sarah. That’s why I’m so partial to black, I saw what a huge difference it makes and so many myths about black...my kitchen did not look smaller or too dark.
It’s your kitchen do what you love...I’m sure any color you choose will look like a new space.

Amy, it's a beautiful kitchen, but not really my style. I prefer something either modern or almost gothic traditional (not sure of the proper name of the style... whatever the second picture is).

No problem. The style you like might be called Old World. It's a unique and nice style :)

There's a lot of charm and character with the pics you sent:) If you really like the 2nd picture then maybe you should paint the cabinets dark like the pic. It's what you feel in your gut that counts and matters. I've learned with any kind of shopping that my first choice is usually the right one. And if I have to think about it very long, then it's not the one. It always works, too! :)

a rich charcoal gray would be outstanding. And, don't believe that black goes with everything. Pewter or nickel
hardware, with clean lines would be the icing on the cake. Make sure that whatever you do, have the cabinets
sprayed with a satin or pearl finish paint. You'll have a finish that will resemble glass....brush strokes are not
pretty. Good luck!

Yes, from what I can tell. It's a dark picture. Do you like mahogany or cherry? Those are both rich colors.

Black or dark grey would be outstanding. Everyone told me not to paint a small room in black but now that its done I get raves about it. Also a pop of orange in the form of pot and pans will not say Halloween:) Have fun

Skip that question. Those colors wouldn't go with your backsplash. But they're pretty:)

The second picture ( on right) above me that you posted looks like dark espresso cabinets. You can re-stain what you have darker easily and they would look brand new, and change your handles. Doing that would save you a ton of money. I would think for under $300.00 you could restain and buy new handles and it would look awesome!! ( I have those cabinets ) it's like a raised shaker which would look good with your backsplash. When and if you decide on a floor look at light golden wood floor to compliment the dark cabinets, you want some contrast and run it horizontally. They have one called Brailizian Mahogany that's a combination of several woods, both light and dark, it's gorgeous.
I would use the Brushed stainless bar handles too. I just bought mine online after lookng for 2 days, and saved 2/3 compared to home depot & Lowes. They are better quailty much heavier and beautiful. I'm extremely happy with them and the company couldn't have been nicer. I bought 4 sizes and " thumb knobs " and they only charged One shipping price. Awesome guy, "Keystoneaccents.com" Tell him Sue sent you if you decide on his handles. I tried ordering on ebay with two other companies and each wanted more shipping, for each size I ordered, NOT this company. Saved me $237.00+ on handles and another $40.00 in shipping. I did my entire kitchen for $116.00 --35 Bar handles, 14 inch to 4 inch, plus thumb knobs. And his site has a tolll free # and that was how I ordered.!! Good Luck, I hope you find what you want!

Go with the Black cabinet stain you love otherwise you will not be happy. Your back splash would look awesome wth those Black Cabinets!!!!. But right now with the light cabinets, counter, and floor ,it looks drab, boring. That little bit of Blue tone in the glass back splash that color Blue would look awesome on the walls!!....Heck, I'm doing mine with deep Purple accessories with a splash of Lime accents. It's your Kitchen, Choose what you Love. :-)

Yes, paint them one of the lightest colours in the backsplash and new hardware would be nice. The floor looks kind of tired too and need not be expensive. There are some nice cork products out there and there are always sales. It would be easy on the feet and back too.

I think black would work. I think the gray suggestion would work well too. I agree with you though, I think the light color finish isn't really doing it.

Love the dark grey, I think the grey will match nicely to the blues in the backsplash but I may be a bit bias since I'm loving grey lately. If black is too bold how about a dark espresso? I feel like grey would give a more modern/contemporary look whereas black/espresso is a bit more classic.

I like the gray above and also the idea of white uppers and gray bottoms- You could pull the same white as in the tile for the top and use the medium gray for the bottom- change up the hardware too- pulls on drawers and beefier knobs on tops

I've been following your post because I've also been trying to decide on a paint color for my cabinets and I'm between gray and black. I love your final decision - looks great! I'm leaning towards Chelsea gray from Benjamin Moore. Has anyone used that color?

I used rustoleum cabinet transformations on my kitchen 3 years ago and I have had no chipping or peeling. We are getting ready to move and I will be using this product on my next kitchen! I love it!!!

You selected a terrific shade of grey. Your colorful dishes set it off perfectly. Or, is it the other way around. Works with your floor, too. That's a WOW.

@Monika I have about 2 tiny chips throughout the entire kitchen, due to my own fault. Other than that they are holding up very nicely!
