Master Bedroom Reading Nook

I'm trying to get ideas on how to decorate this reading nook in my master bedroom. Any suggestions on decorating the wall space? Drapes vs no drapes? Color suggestions that will go with already existing colors?

I think curtains would help make the area feel cozier. Remove that one small piece of wall art. Maybe get a slightly bigger side table and a new lamp too.

I agree that draperies that flank the sides of the windows, and don't cover them up, will add some warmth and make it feel like a great place to cozy up with a book and a cup of coffee.

Thank you for the great feedback. I really love that look that you posted with the drapes. Any color suggestions on drapes? Here are a few additional photos of the bedroom. A few pictures of the work in progress, but just posting to show the space and furniture

I would go with either a color that blends into the walls or a soft white for your drapes.

Those drapes do look good! I like the color in the last pic (of drapes) shown. I can't tell for sure what color your chair and coverlet are? Tan or grey?

I just love nooks like yours! Light control is a must. Roman shades would delightful!

And if you want more a whimsy look, mounting drapery on the outside! How adorable?

What is your paint color on the walls? That looks really nice.

I think nooks in master bedrooms should have two chairs, not one. It is a master bedroom so you think of a couple. So I would do two smaller chairs in a seating arrangement. The one chair you have there now is too big anyway for that space. Then you need to repaint, that blue is not good.

If you actually use the space you need a proper reading lamp.

We suggest roman shades or long white drapes for your reading area.

A rotating bookcase? And a much better reading lamp.

The coverlet is a taupe and chair is a light beige. I never thought of Roman shades, thanks for the feedback! The paint color is Sioux Falls by Benjamin Moore.

I like the roman shade idea also. And, I really like your paint color. Very nice room, can't wait to see it brought to life.

What a pretty room and nook. And everything looks brand new. Just lovely.

My first thoughts were an afghan, lamp (functional rather than decorative), some drapes, and a place to stash your reading materials. The chair and ottoman look real comfy. They might be a bit big for the space, but not too bad.

    Hi Michelle-

    Lovely room!

Perhaps it's my monitor, but it doesn't seem as if the pillows on your chair really work with the color of your chair and the wall color. I think you can do better. Ditto with the pillows on your bed that should work with the wall color and your duvet . Your chair could use a nice throw with which you can cover your legs when you are reading.

In addition, while the pictures over your bed are nice, they are too small.

Just a few small tweaks, and your room will be perfect!

    Enjoy your hideaway!

loobab, is it that the art is too small or just hung a bit too high? Michelle, the bottom of the frame for the art should be about 5 inches above the head board.

Yes, Denita, they are hung too high and also too far apart. They do not take up enough visual space above the bed because one looks at them collectively as one object, and as such they are individually too small and when hung properly this will be even more apparent.

I like the idea of roman shades throughout the room. I love the wall color and I have to say-your doors are just beautiful!

I see that with a bistro table and 2 chairs, and a pendant light overhead, or just the right color/size/style/ swag lamp cord added to put it over the table, using your wall outlet... The area is too small for 2 easy chairs, and really, if you want to be in a soft spot, you will be in your bed reading.. Roman shades would be perfect, if the panels to the floor between the windows doesn't work. Coordinate the lamp with the drapes or wall color you prefer. Can't wait to see what you decide. Special room.
