I would read this article.(not really an article but lighting store info). It says that if the ceiling is higher than 8 feet you should add 3" per foot to the height of the chandelier. And I personally think it depends on the layout of your room as well. I'm assuming the arch leads to your kitchen. If you hang the light 32 to 36" above the table it is going to be directly in the line of sight to the other side of the room when coming from the kitchen -- which is maybe your living room? I'm making some assumptions but it's worth checking out all the possibilities.

You can use a fixture on a chain or search for fixtures that say they can be mounted on a slanted ceiling. I agree with happyleg-you want it to hang about 34-36" over the top of the table.

Given the height of the ceiling, I'm wondering if the light should shine up or down?

I don't care for a light that shines down. Something that is open enough to give light to the whole room might be a better bet. I was going to sketch this into your room but Houzz won't let me. Something like this that leans traditional but is not too stuffy?

I think it would be pretty viewed through the archway as well.

One little unsolicited piece of advice ...the two pieces of furniture on each side of the arched doorway may look nice angled in the respective corners....and even improve the traffic pattern
