What are your thoughts - budget?

If this was my space I would add a pretty window treatment and backsplash. If you want to change the counters, that comes before a backsplash. I do not see anything wrong with the counters, but I am not standing in your kitchen.

Here are two refreshed older kitchens - but not sure what your budget is. Both of these have new countertops, backsplash and sink.

If you want constructive comments, please provide photos of all four walls, including adjoining spaces. Your question isn't clear. Are you unhappy with the cabinets, the kitchen in general, or what? What's your budget? Did you just move in? In any case, there's not enough information to truly be helpful.

I would suggest a colorful Oriental rug or runner to fill up the floor space, something in warm and colorful tones.

My daughters say that the flooring does not match the cabnit color and countertops. Looking for ideas to pull these colors together?

It all works perfectly fine together. The only issues are see are two. 1. Paint the pantry door and woodwork the same color as the wall so they blend in. 2. You need a better lighting set up. The chandelier by the refrigerator needs to be eliminated. Its placement in the room doesn't make any sense. I would get an estimate to have recessed lights installed or, at the very least, have the electrical box moved to the center of the kitchen so you can get an appropriate light fixture. Then the chandelier over the eating area needs to be lowered significantly so that the bottom of it sits about 34-36" above the top of the table.

This is not necessary, but it would be nice to add some fixed roman shades over the blinds at both windows to bring in some color and pattern.

Yeah, your floors & cabs look fine together. I personally would paint that banquette/bench & table, though. That adds a tad too much stained wood to the mix. I’d also probably do some sort of different window treatments and I’d remove the items above the cabs and restyle that shelf. Oh, and I agree about removing that superfluous chandy.

Looks nice. Hardwood flooring is neutral like a pair of jeans. I think it would be overkill to match the cabinets. I agree about adding a runner or rug. Make sure it relates to the rest of your decorating. It looks like the kitchen is open to a living room. You could do some type of window treatment. I'd keep it the same on both windows. Fabric will add color and soften things up. As will a runner/rug. If you do a backsplash I would keep it simple, solid subway tile that relates to the counters. I wouldn't do small tiles because I think it looks busy but that's a personal preference. You could also do a beadboard backsplash. Are your walls white or a very pale blue?

katin has a great start. I would remove every single thing from the counter tops.

Stain the pantry door and trim to match the cabinets.

Remove the chandelier over the stove and replace with pot lights. Lower the chandelier above the eating area.

Add a patterned valance over the window. Or a patterned roman shade.

I am not sure about painting the banquette. It goes well with the floor. I would add a couple of small rugs....one in front of the sink and one in front of the stove/refrigerator.

I agree that there is nothing wrong with your kitchen. If you want an update begin by removing those window shades and get pretty curtains. A wall color with more oomph( no gray!!) would be a welcome change. Then paint the pantry door the new wall color.

Here are some dark cabinets, light floors.

Get a Roman shades for the windows in a print that includes a little of the gold in a pattern. Pick colors that link to your adjoining space. Think about a tile backsplash in a warm white and new lighting--maybe a nice swan faucet. Paint the far door same color as the wall. Consider turning your "nook" into a banquette setup with a small round table.

You don’t match flooring and cabinets. You need the contrast. I would like to see color. On the walls, rugs, accessories, etc.

I would removed that very fancy cabinet next to the stainless steel refrigerator. They really, really do not go together. I would also remove the tablecloth on the dinette table; it instantly ages the room.

Beautiful cabinetry! Agree with the suggestion to paint the pantry door to blend. Also agree with the suggestion to remove the random chandelier by the fridge and replace it with something closer to the ceiling.

What is the dark strip above the countertop? I would suggest removing it and tiling the full backsplash from countertop to bottom of the cabinets.

Would you consider putting a rug under the eating area? It seems to blend with the floors and might feel more cozy with a rug.

At the time didn’t have money for backsplash so we just put a match cabinet board. Which I was hoping to change out years ago.

Some other things that will give your kitchen an update:

--Say goodbye to the little shelf over the window and the small items up on the cabinet near the fridge. Instant update.

--If you get what's called a "swan faucet," the hose is built into it. Keep your paper towels off the counter. Put your dish liquid bottle in the sink. Less clutter = update that doesn't cost anything!

--It's definitely worth getting a modern centered overhead light in the kitchen and a smaller one that coordinates with it over the sink.

--One of my Ideabooks, labelled "Banquette & window benches" show some very wonderful ones. Get a small round table for yours unless the one you have is built in. You can find a nice round table at Ikea or at a thrift shop. No tablecloth.
