Stuck on layout

So we're changing up out living room and dining room but don't have much choice when it comes to the layout. The new couch is on order and we'll be painting the walls as well. the old layout had the couch in front of our big front window but I'd really love to take advantage of the view and have the couch layout you see in the pictures ( tv will be mounted on the wall if it matters ). We're indecisive on what to put ib front of the window to make it feel complete but not block the view. Any suggestions? Bench chair, accent table, something else? Different layout? Also included a picture of the new couch if that helps.

But , if you can't cancel it ...just play with it until you are comfortable . The room seems to small for such huge furniture ..but if that is what your needs are ...so be it , enjoy the view and put the tv in the corner next to the window ...

While that overstuffed sectional is not my personal choice in furniture style, the major problem with it is its size in relation to your room. Its just too darn big, and you will hate it, and yourself for buying it in about two years. As much as you think you really want a sectional, I’m going to try to talk you out of it. Sectionals are so limiting...they cannot be rearranged for extra seating needed, etc etc. in a smallish room like you have, a beautiful 3 seater sofa and two easy chairs on either side...sofa facing the window, will give you the arrangement (and flexibility!) you need. When you have picked the sofa, the chairs should NOT match the sofa...but in a small space like this, having them match each other will help the space achieve cohesiveness. A gorgeous rug on the floor, a dynamite coffee table (consider round) and boom! You’re done! The key is to not buy furniture that is massive, bulky, weighty.

Oops...just reread your post and your tv will be on the wall....so, put the new smaller sofa facing the tv and chairs still can go on either side...either facing each other directly or slightly angled.

Good Morning Robert, I don’t understand why people need to be so abrupt and judgmental.....everyone has a right to their own opinion, but maybe a little more subtle?
What is the function of your room, mainly to watch tv, entertaining, conversation, all of the above? After you determine that, your room will start to come together. I would definitely paint the walls and maybe change the window treatment. You mention a view, what is it, and can we see it? Right now, the room seems a little dark, and with your large sectional, it may seem closed in, so I’d go with a nice “backdrop” color. Do you need privacy at the window? Is changing window treatment in the budget?

A loooong time ago in my first home I had the furniture store interior designer visit and offer plans and suggestions for furnishings. The room I was furnishing was in a home built in 1945 (grandparents home) with only one solid wall. Designer recommended 2 loveseats - rare for more than 2 people to sit on a sofa - 2 swival chairs. Max seating for 6 with dining chairs or benches brought in for extra seating when neded. It has been my go-to plan for difficult rooms since. No sectionals and only the occasional small scale sofa since. Let's see, how many homes have I lived in?? lol

You can't "play with" that sofa. IT'S NOT JUDGEMENTAL. It is fact. There are 8 million dilemmas posted here on these pages, with the ........................( notice color match to sofa)

in the room. You want help? Or we should all just say what someone wants to hear. That's helpful? What do we say when it looks like the beast in the room that it will be for certain, and it can NOT go back? "PLAY with it" ??

First you start with the best layout for your room, and next, you find furniture that fits that layout. You can see that the current layout in your room might allow you to view the TV, but the room is just not attractive or appealing to view. Your TV is wider than the wall where you have it placed.

Here is a layout that works for your room. Find a sofa and two chairs or a sofa, lounge chair, and recliner for the room.

Translated.........and Beverly gave you the best solution for the space..,....is this room is EITHER for view, or it is for TV. It can not be both.

I appreciate everyone's feedback, I know some will be more to the point then others. Little more feedback and something I forgot to add, we're limited on our couch selections because anything to long or not in pieces will not fit through our doors. We went through this before when we originally bought a 3 piece type sectional. I have thought though about knocking out a wall that would open up our entryway when you walk in. We don't watch a lot of tv but we do enjoy having other's over to entertain. That being said we also have two little kids and while they grew we didn't upgrade to much because we knew the stuff would just get ruined. Someone asked about view as well and its not more so like a beautiful scenic view I just like to see outside but I'm willing to compromise. So we rearranged it and also have the idea to remove a piece in the sectional to make it smaller ( nothing has been ordered yet ). And yes I plan on redoing the floors as well.

And we also decided the tv should go on the long wall as well.

Please see Beverly's drawing,,,,,,,,and trust me on this:

If the furniture you now have came into the room.....any 84 inch sofa with a 24 inch high arm will come through any entry point, or you have idiots for delivery people.. Ditto two chairs.

Do not buy that elephant, or you WILL BE back here. Please.

A sofa will not fit in the door unless the back comes off. So we are limited to a recliner type sofa or a sectional where the pieces brake apart. Or me removing a wall.

Beverly's layout is correct and this is what we're going with. The little wall will get a smaller bench type seat or maybe a table accent with a fireplace. I feel switched around the sectional won't be to over powering ( yes may be bulky still to some ) the original way we had it in the pictures the couch over hung the entry and I think that just made it appear more awkward. We're not locked in on anything just yet but its good to bounce ideas around. Thanks everyone

This drawing is not to scale and I don't have the actual dimensions of your new sectional, but I cannot see anyway possible this layout will work in this room without separating pieces of the sectional

I can't see a point in buying chunks of an elephant. ....

Even with a door issue! A left arm chair, right arm chair and an ARMLESS chair in the middle ?! Presto!!! A sofa!
