What a great problem to have! Do you have any idea how you want to use the space? Do you need more clothing storage, or a seating area? Are you lacking space elsewhere for an office.... it would just help to know these things. And maybe some rough dimensions for wall space/doors/windows, etc.

Empty space is very peaceful and restful. Do not fill it up just to fill it up.

You can move the dresser and make a nice seating area in the space under the alcove.

You can make a "coffee station" in the room so you can have coffee when you would like.

You can build a false wall and move the bed out into the room more.

What would you like to have in your sanctuary? When all the world is going crazy, what would you like to retreat to? I do not have any electronics or a TV in my bedroom. I find it very relaxing and peaceful.

Thanks for the ideas! We have a separate office, and dont put any electronics in the bedroom either.. I suppose seating would be nice, but should we move the chair thats already in the corner? The space definitely feels nice, but it almost feels too big. Its nice for our toddler to run around, but it would be nice to feel like an adult retreat as well..

first of all you have a great room but you need to have furniture that can handle the space and not get lost in there. you can keep the bed on the wall that it is and center it in the middle of the wall get two night stands with some really nice lamps and above the bed a nice picture or some sort of wall art above the bed. Remove the chair that is in the corner by the window definitely get some really nice window treatments because that will really soften the room and give a sense of romance then turn that area into a fabulous sitting space with two chairs and ottomans put your feet up with a table in the center or a chaise lounge with a coffee table or an ottoman in front of it or a small table to the side of it with a floor lamp. On the wall across from the bed you can put a wall mount tv and a dresser also a floor length mirror as well as a dresser with a mirror along the wall were the crib is and if there is enough room another chair or stool next to it. Get some faux plants and art work to add a pop of color. Change the ceiling light out to a ceiling fan with light kit

I would add some Ikea Pax storage to give more storage and to take up some of the space and give the room more interest. Make it look built in like they did here.

I would add a seating area.

Another idea - move the bed forward, put a wall behind the bed and put a lovely walk in dressing area behind the wall.

How about some wallpaper? That would give it a more cozy feeling?

Or hang drapes behind the bed...on the whole wall. Floor to ceiling.

Or, like someone said...make an area for a small fridge and counter. You could have coffee, juice, bottles water, wine,,,,without running downstairs....kind of what a luxury hotel suite would have. You could even hide it in the modular Pax closet.

Leave the dressers where they are.

Have two comfortable chairs, possibly an ottoman if you would like, place them in front of the window with a table in between them.

Get some color and texture in the room, it is all a monotone now.

Get a more interesting duvet cover, and get some European sized pillows (those great big squares) with nice sham covers in whatever color and textures you like.

Have coordinating throw pillows on the chairs.

These colors should coordinate with the art you are going to buy for over your dressers and bed.

Consider a rug for under your bed, to stick out. A king bed needs a rug that is 9 x 12 feet or 10 x 13 feet.

You can also buy a mirror if you like.

A starburst mirror is a great idea, as one person showed above.

Please de-clutter your surfaces, take out the laundry basket.

Replace your light fixture and buy a glamorous chandelier with adequate wattage for that size room, have it on a dimmer.

You don't need lamps on your dressers.

Get a large live plant. Never any fake plants!

I love the window seat in Rugnot's picture. You can do that and make custom storage cabinets on either side of it.

Yes, a chandelier would be nice and yes, some negative space for sure.

Parents need a quiet private place with a door that shuts away from their children to sit and talk.

I would move the bed onto the wall where the crib is so that it faces the window. Then put two armchairs with a table in between them in front of the window. Add some artwork to the walls.

Yes, Melissa - I sit in my bedroom. I work from home most of the time and like to sit in my bedroom sometimes, the office at other times, the kitchen table at other times. I also sit in my bedroom to pay bills and to read a good book.

I like the sitting area near the windows.. we dont spend much time sitting in the bedroom, but probably would if we can look out the window. I dont think I would change the direction of the bed for feng shui purposes.. i think im hoping for more visuals of layout. maybe the decor will come after I know what furniture to buy..? i think the far end of the room where the longer dresser is feels the most empty and awkward. What other options besides a tv and sitting area? I dont think I would bring in food into the room... A mirror would be nice but the alcove area has low ceilings, im considering ALL ideas, please keep them coming!

I too, sit in my bedroom. I have a wonderfully comfortable chair. There is no TV, electronics or noise! I curl up with a good book and I am in seventh heaven!!

I choose to not cover my chair in clothes so that I can just sit and look out the window at the water and watch the geese and ducks and fish and muskrats, etc. Then I watch the sunset. Best 30 minutes I give myself!!!

Although live plants are wonderful Sometimes loobab you have to have faux plants especially if the space doesn’t get a lot of light or could be slightly colder in there it really makes it hard to keep a life plant alive. There is a place that you can get fauxs that look real

Why not wall off part of the room for a closet/dressing room?

If possible try switching the white bench with the dresser. Create a seating area. A soft, fluffy cushion on the bench, a side table with lighting, comfortable for reading or lounging. A pretty vanity might work also. A larger scaled head board would cozy it up too. Create different areas of use. Be sure to keep it the same design style to tie it all together. Plants will also add a sense of calm and warmth.

We had a large bedroom in one of our houses ... and I like to read in bed with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate ... so for my convenience , we put an approximately six feet wide Bookcase in the room, with a good sized table and a pair of comfortable chairs. That room was my private 'getaway' room ... loved it. Oh, and my husband would be down in his Den, falling asleep while watching TV.

For the area that feels the most empty. What about a fireplace as below - or - as suggested you can replace the fireplace with a bookcase.

We did have a fireplace in the bedroom of one of our homes ... but didn't like it, as the room never smelt fresh and clean. It was almost like a person had been smoking in the room ... not for me!

*shirlpp* Some gas fireplaces are really beautiful, especially if they have a glass front on them. We had one that looked like actual logs burning ... but I do like the sound of burning wood 'crackling' in someone else's home.

I would replace the bench at the end of the bed with a sofa and create a seating area in the center of the room. Right now, the space feels awkward because all the furniture is pushed up against the wall.

Instead of a wall, could you put the headboard and maybe the dressers against a floor to ceiling opaque drapery hung from a ceiling rod?

I saw it on Houzz somewhere and it looked simple and inexpensive. In the dressing area, I'd put the 2 dressers and the bench. Then move the bed to face the window.

Put the comfortable chair at the foot of the bed near the window where the light is good for day reading, and add a lamp there for evening reading.

Ok guys, thanks alot! Its been some time to get our hands on some items... here are the updates so far. We got rid of the crib and moved the dresser further down. I still havent bought seating yet, but what if I leave everything as is and instead have a hug rug to tie it all together? Should I still do seating near the windows? Or seating in replacement of the bench???

A huge rug would be nice but if you really want the room to feel like a get away place we’re you can just relax and get away from the world for awhile you definitely need the seating in front of the window.

Move the seating so you don't see it when you are at the door and seating instead of bench would be cool!! Or two chairs and a table in front of the window or in the alcove across from the bed.

josielwalsh, could you please provide a floor plan with dimensions including doors and windows? I'm wondering if it'll be better to have the bed face the windows. Before thinking of a rug, I would instead think first of getting wider nightstands.
