Well, I just came from outside and have the opposite surprise. Germination too early for Arugula and Clarkia. Arugula I'll chalk up to learning because it's my first time to sow it. Clarkia let's chalk up to stupidity. Last year it germinated early, so I have no excuse for not knowing better and sowing it later this year. Perhaps by the next season I'll have a functioning brain.

I have some seeds that need warm-cold-warm. I'm hoping to have your same surprise next year, dbarron!

That's also a possibility that the ones I mentioned need a warm period before cold. I can't find such info on the web that says so...but...germination info is kinda fragmentary. Plus fresh seed often germinates faster than older mature dry seed.

My particular seeds are from Praire Moon and are natives, and considering how well adapted natives are supposed to be, some of them are rather finicky about germinating! I'm surprised at how many needed warm-cold-warm, and peeved that I didn't recent it before I sowed so I could have a t least put them in the same jug!

Helleborous may need two winters to germinate. Muscari, irregular germination. Crocus germination, a year or more.

Well I planted some corydalis and dicentra seeds in December, seeing no sign of germination, I fear that it will be next spring for those too (if I'm lucky).

Hopefully something will grow this year (of this years seedlings). Plant World Seeds never mentions needing warm season treatment before the cold, though it's apparent many temperate species need it. Darn it!

This year I ordered from Prairie Moon Nursery and find their germination information to be thorough. According to them Pale Corydalis needs cold stratification. I'll bet yours are find this year! I bought Actaea rubra (Red Baneberry) and Actaea pachypoda (Doll's Eyes), both of which need cold-warm-cold-warm. Now, THAT was a surprise for sure! Here's toasting to the summer of 2019...
