Help with Foyer Design

I have a decent size foyer with herringbone floor, wainscotting, 2 light fixtures and 12' ceilings. I would like some advice for the design of the foyer. My husband would like functionality with hooks and a bench for people to put their coats and purses when they walk in. I like functionality but also want it to look nice and not too messy. I also don't want it to feel too casual since it has some fancier elements to it. We have two sides to work with and space above the wainscotting. Do I do art or mirror above the wainscotting? on which sides? One side is smaller because it go to a bathroom and bedroom cove so that should be considered.

And what size and orientation of rug? I was thinking a 3' x 5' rug where the current rug is so not to hide the herringbone floor.

The bench was bought and placed there for visualization purposes.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't care for the idea of treating this like a back of the house mudroom with coats, and purses cluttering it up. I would keep it open and airy as it is. Lay a gorgeous oriental runner on the floor and fill the walls with art which you can pick up second hand. Refurbish frames and they will add some instant interest, pulling guests toward the room at the end.

Lovely floor and paneling. If the family uses the foyer daily, then a long runner is needed to protect the floor. If it is rarely used, then get a small rug as wide as the entire doorframe/sidelights.

You need a foyer table to breakup the long corridor “train effect.” Narrow, so it doesn’t impede traffic flow. And some of the items displayed on your bookcases may look great grouped on a foyer table.

do u concidered about built in custom cabinet btw?

i got this weird sketch but hope u understand lol
pic 1 is showing the cabinet from the living room view, it has side empty space not to deep, but enough to hang coats on hanger (not hook).
pic 2 showing front view, i know its chicken scatch lol, so the left side (which actually behind that is the space for the coat) is a dead board. like it just board, no handle, no door. you can put picture there if you can make it a bit deeper than the cabinet head, but if you cant make it deeper, you can hang maybe 3 small FRAMELESS pictures vertically, from the middle all the way up. and the right side is devided into 3 parts: the lower is for shoe rack (like pic no 3, but single), the middle is opened cabinet, you can put basket as the color of your door and floor (pic no 4), and the top, tou can put ransels, bags, etc.
and on the other side of the wall, you can put white frame mirror to balance the cabinet.
and before the living room door, you can put 2 symetrical green artificial plants just beside the door.
