Help with 9 x 7 master bath shower size

Hi- we're renovating our master bath and are having trouble deciding how big to make the new shower. Attached is a floorplan of what we have currently and basically everything is going to be replaced and updated from 1986.

The vanity area has been decided (although not ordered). It will replace the current vanity location. The main issue is how big to make the shower? We do want it larger than it is currently and are thinking about pushing it out into the room towards the vanity, but not sure by how much. We will use as much glass as possible to make it feel more open for such a small room. We are open to moving plumbing if it makes sense. Any size suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!

Give your toilet area a bit more width 39 inches. Thirty four and a half is tight Extend the shower knee wall /shower to line up at 44.5 inches , shorten up the shower to 41.5 inside length. A 45 x 42 shower is plenty generous, .. You''ll have a lovely symmetrical view from the open door, either way. And plenty of room for art....and room to back up at the vanity. Basically 42 inches, and you wouldn't want a whole lot less unless necessary.

.I would NOT !!! lose a pocket door for a barn door. Frankly, a good old swing door is better than a barn door on a bath.

Thanks for you ideas! I do like pushing out to 44.5 although we do find that the current toilet area is enough for us so would likely keep the 46".

Curious as to why you don't like a barn door? especially in place of a pocket door?

A 36.5"x46" shower is plenty big enough, even allowing a few inches for the tile setting. If you use the same footprint, the original waterproofing should be checked carefully. If it is damaged during renovation, you may need to redo it, which would make adding some extra shower space easier.

Yes! I should have been more clear-- sorry. We are ripping it all down to studs. There were some leakage issues that we want to clean up while were at it so anything is possible :)

Re the toilet.............. I MEANT .....34.5 in width is not enough for comfort when you have any wall containing the fixture,. The toilet has no door....: ) length is irrelevant except as how it affects the width of your shower.

Couple things I would try to incorporate....if you have any thing to look at outside I would locate the shower to have the largest possible window location ....plus....I would stay with the pocket doors...and make the entrance opening as large as possible....in the master the door is almost always open...this way the door is not obstructing the adjoining walls in the bed room...we found these gorgeous old detailed solid wood doors so you have the weight and are they are soundproof when closed...they have just as much as personality as barn doors without defining the decor the way barn doors do...

To be clear the old door is installed as a pocket door

Huge showers arent that great. I like to have a good hot shower and a shower that is too large just doesnt feel right. My new master bath shower is 42 x 60, 48 inch floor plus 12 inch bench, and it is quite generous, bordering on too large, for one person. (still plenty large for two!). Dont get caught up in the nonsense about bigger is always better as it may cost more but the function doesnt change

MY god. There is no better layout than what you HAVE. It's attractive, logical and functional. Adjust the inches and be done : ) Keep the pocket door. Widen the 34.5 toilet space.........please.
