I have a big tall hedge of them. Plenty of "cherries", but I've yet to get a seedling.

Caveats, first, the ground beneath them is heavily mulched with their own fallen leaves, and second, we have been in a drought for years.

Grewia, lavender starflower. The seeds have to pass through the digestive tract of a South African monkey before they will germinate. It can be maintained at any height and can be very narrow. It is also entirely indifferent to water, tolerating both wet and dry conditions.
