I saw this on Houzz and tried to mimic it....

The photo of my blue cabinets looks wider than it actually is....ot looks stretched out...

Go big: continue that blue all the way over to the right and paint the wall and door too. Right now the closet is dwarfing the door so make it look like one unit.

I'd leave the shiplap white. I like it. can you hang that mirror though? instead of leaning it? it's tilted up too far and looks off. I'd get a plant on a stand to put in that corner. It's a very nice entry way. I like the idea of painting the door next to the hutch in the same blue. You may want to do a bit of that shiplap over that door.. that way you could just paint the door the blue but leave the shiplap white so it matches the other wall.

Not too many colors, just not enough color repetition. The vivid blue is a color you could repeat on the opposite wall with either a picture next to the bench and mirror or a blue geometric design fabric covering the bench seat. How about hanging the mirror on the wall? The space just needs some details to look finished. Also, I’d consider the foyer a separate room from your living room, so to me, the green chair isn’t even an issue. (And the pictures are fine when you click on them, otherwise, they do look a tad distorted, so I would not paint the white door blue.)

Ok...i will hang that mirror...and I will get a plant stand. Should I do a taller stand? If I oaontvthat garage door same comour would I leave the white wall above and around that garage door?

The blue is a great colour. It's a bold choice so you will have to commit to owning it with bold art and accessories. Or you could tone it down with a much more muted grey-blue like your inspiration pic or navy. Hale Navy is a great choice.

2. Balance out by adding blue on other side

3. Add some art with colour if cabinets...

I guess it's better to have more options than none. I REALLY appreciate all the feedback...this is why I love Houzz.

you could find a bright blue pot and put a plant in that. that way you get your blue color from the other side.

What if I did a wood ledge up above the mirror like this?

You would have to measure the mirror to see how much space would be left above it. Maybe if you hang it horizontally and leave no wall space between it and the shelf. Maybe cut out cardboard or tape together printer paper to match the size of the mirror, or tape it out on the wall to help you visualize how much space it takes up.

No, I wouldn’t paint the door. To me, that would look just odd, like you’re trying to pretend it’s part of the entryway unit. It’s a different style, has different hardware, and is recessed. Let the two pieces work separately. And I think I’d pass on the ledge over the mirror. If you find a tall, narrow print or a plant stand, I’d try those first. I think the mirror can work very well there and is totally functional for the space. I think you’d miss it if you removed it!

Don't paint the mirror frame blue. Just hang it and add a blue potted plant to that side. You have a beautiful home.

Plevels, great job so far! What do you think of recovering the bench with fabric that has the blue of your built in and the tan color of the entrance carpet?

I could recover the bench...but I just bought it this weekend.. thinking it was perfect...LOL

before you go through the trouble to recover, why don't you try some of the other, easier options first? (hanging the mirror, a little table w/blue pot/plant, some pillows, painting the door,,,,)

Unless you need the wall space for a cabinet, consider keeping the large mirror. If it's weight is a factor, perhaps you could hang it from eye hooks affixed to the top wall plate. Alternately, you might consider adding a pair of horizontal boards to be able to affix them to multiple studs and then hanging the mirror horizontally (if it fits).

lets hang the mirror, grab a plant, (if you do a tall one, get the blue ceramic pot,,,if doing a smaller one, grab one of those small tables from target and put it on there or one like this,,,or hang one from the ceiling,,,,up to you)

then take another photo and lets see how it looks. since it's dark w/the bench and mirror, get a small throw in the light blue, to put over the edge of the bench. see the little throw in the basket? like that color but for the bench

and I just have to show you this photo. look at how pretty this would be against that wall (and how nice the palm plant is!) (But lets just do your mirror and decor first! ;)

For your plant, consider

You can choose a small one for your hanging basket -- they grow fairly quickly. If/when they get longer than you might want them to be, you can clip the stems and they'll live in water for a while root easily to be replanted in another pot in another window.

I would suggest you find some curtains with blue and green in a print or plaid to tie the color scheme together. Then, you might also find or make some throws and throw pillows in the same or harmonizing print or plaid and place these on the seating pieces. Wall art with bits of the same colors will help too.

you can't return it? if not, it's fine,,,we'll make it work w/the throw (try HomeGoods, or Marshalls,,they have great colors) and the plant. Again, try home goods for a ceramic planter in one of the blue colors,,,and they might have a little table,,,or Target (check on line too).

What's the mirror frame made of? if we have to jazz it up, I could walk you through how to paint that frame.

The mirror frame is wood fake wood...i think..not real anyway. Is home goods a store? I have a Marshall's around me...but it's a bit of a drive...i will look online...omg...thanks for all your help Beth H....much appreciated....i will keep you posted on this with some pics..:))

You can repaint the mirror frame the same color as the wall and the frame -- real wood or fake wood -- will visually disappear.

look online then for a smaller, knit throw, in one of those blue colors (or do a few pillows,,,either will work to bring in the color. Target might carry some as well)

And what suezbell said is correct. if you wanted to paint the frame, you could.

but again, lets see what it looks like after it's hung and we get some color over there. I'm sure it will be fine.
