Tv's don't normally shutdown from a "low" signal. Sounds to me like it's overheating or there are internal issues.

For the 2nd issue, could be an issue with the remote? Like the guide button is bad and always turns on with the tv, but never works. I'd take the batteries out of the remote and turn on the tv from the tv itself and see if the guide comes on right away.

Thanks Steve. I thought maybe it was an over heating issue at first but then I noticed it was always at the same show previews weekly, like clockwork. Of course the shows run on clockwork, lol. It seems to be random now though so it might be over heating. The remote idea is the thing Im going to try right now. The remote has been making cracking noises over the last 6 months once in a while. its weird.

I love this TV, but I might need a new one sooner than later I suppose.

Didn't work; the trial of taking the batteries out and turning the tv on with the button on the side didn't work. I did try setting up the guide from the tv, just to see if that made a difference. So far it hasn't because it still comes on without the remote or with the remote.

The guide has to come from somewhere else besides the TV though - i.e. cable box etc. Right? So that can't be a problem with the TV can it?

As for shutting down, if it happens after a certain amount of time watching it, it shouldn't matter what show you have on. Why it would do that related to a particular show is a mystery. I'm assuming this TV is a few years old - if it's been acting up for 4-5 years it must be older than that. It may have the dreaded power supply capacitor disease. Basically $10 worth of parts can fix that, plus labor of course. If you can use a soldering iron...

You might check the manuf. website and see if there is any kind of a firmware update for it.

Thanks to both of you. I will try the website for firmware update. I will look for a reset option on the set too. Like the idea of TV shopping, lol. but if I can't come up with a solution, we'll just limp along until it is too annoying to contend with.

Power is suddenly turned off.

• Is the sleep timer set? (See page 59.)

• Check the power control setting. (See page 58.)

• The system’s internal temperature has increased.

Clean the vents, or remove any blocking objects.(See page 16).

Also, set up the 8 Day OTA Guide - making sure that you have selected the same Antenna Input as you are using for the antenna OTA signal. (A or B)

Get a replacement Remote.

On a little vacation in Chicago. So I’m not near the set.

I have tried to rest the TV guide numerous times, so that’s not it.

I’ll check the power control and sleep settings whe we get back.

I’ll check the vents. Nothing is blocking the tv, it has its own space.

The remote is another avenue for me to consider. It does make popping and crackle weird noises sometimes.
