So sorry...I am in Louisville KY USA. I am attempting to grow orchids in my basement with east facing windows. There are some trees, so I have grow lights if needed. They are raised up on trays and water added to trays every few days to add humidity. When they re-bloom, I bring them to main rooms to enjoy. The cymbidium I bought is in full bloom and living in my kitchen with indirect light. It is beautiful, loaded with blooms. Thank you arthurm, for sending these notes. I grow over 200 roses outside but love the challenge of orchids during the winter months.!!

As with other orchids temperature and light needs vary with the type of cymbidium. However if these are the large ones like I see at supermarkets here probably they will need good air circulation, bright light and temperatures on the cool side - when there used to be an orchid nursery near me the cymbidium house often had pretty forceful fans running, at times when the other greenhouses did not.

Look for a local Orchid Society. I can't stress enough how much help you will get from people living and growing in your area.

You can visit as a guest (no cost) and talk to people there. Bring your Cymbidium to the meeting.

There are different types of Cyms which require different temperatures to get blooms. Without a name or tag, it is hard to advise you.

I live in Florida and cannot grow them due to the high heat. Even though they say certain Cyms are warm growers. Florida is too hot.

If you have a tag on your plant, post it. Maybe Arthur can help identify the plant which makes it easier to give advice.

Cymbidium Heaven in the USA? Santa Barbara? Why? A lovely "cold ocean" flowing by the doorstep producing a cooling sea breeze after a warm day.

This Cool Night Average Summer temperature is the thing that makes a difference between a plant with lovely green leaves and no blooms and a plant that will bloom every year.

If you have a backyard in Sydney, Australia they are beginners orchids. Go a bit further north towards the tropics and flowering becomes difficult. That Summer night cool down is crucial for most (but there are exceptions).

Sorry to say, in my opinion there are better orchids for an indoor plant room.

Just a bit more.....Not a Phalaenopsis discussion. Lol.

That is why the trend to marketing plants without a name tag is a pain, on the other hand the price is right.

The Hybrid Cymbidium in the pics has an ancestor bred in Florida, Cymbidium Golden Elf.

Some of the species Cymbidiums come from warmer climates. Cymbidium dayanum being one.

Ps. I am not anti Phalaenopsis, but they are not the easiest orchids to grow here in Sub Tropical Sydney, Australia. No Central Heating? Put on an extra layer of clothing. Snow! None of that evil substance falls from the sky.
