Dwarf sunflowers for group project--how-to

Howdy! For a group project, I'm hoping to get folks to plant a dwarf sunflower seed on April 1, with transplant at a local homeless shelter in about 6 weeks. I know sunflowers don't like their roots disturbed, so plopping the pot in the ground would be ideal. I'm thinking we could make newspaper pots wrapped around a large can (Chunky Soup sized).

Just wondering if anyone here has tips that can improve odds of transplant success. type of dwarf sunflower that is especially hardy? Size of pots? Anything else? Thank you kindly.
