I'm a 3D Artist with an interest in interior design.

I'm a consumer and not a design person so take my comment with a grain of salt. For me, as a consumer, the room looks very generic (not a good thing). I don't see any personality in the room at all. Do you have a consumer profile that you are looking to target? I find it makes it easier in my profession (Realtor) to have a particular market in mind to attract that market. It gives you an idea of personality needed to attract that market. Is this a LR for empty nesters, DINKS, young professionals, families with children, college students etc. Define your market then create a room for them that speaks to that market. Choose one. The more broad your audience for this room, the less appeal it will have because it becomes too bland. JMO.

The specific items that I think are very generic are: matching coffee table and side table, too short (and ubiquitous) generic lamps, no life/color/style in the area rug. I think you get the idea. Go that extra step and take it out of the furniture showroom and design for a person.

Having said the above, I have no idea of the constraints your professor may have put on the assignment! Good luck. It seems you do go the extra mile by coming here for feedback and that is a very good thing.

Here is an example of a small portion of a contemporary LR but it shows a big impact in personality. Just an example but you get a clear idea of the occupant's style.

Agree with Denita...it looks like a Rooms to Go showroom. Why is the armchair waaay over in the corner instead of being pulled up to the sofa where a normal person would have a conversation area? The coffee table and end tables are too matchy-matchy, and so is the overall color scheme....it just doesn’t say “a person/family lives here”. But, your renderings are quite authentic looking.

What is the assignment? Just curious.

I agree with the comments above, when I first looked at it, I thought, it looks uncomfortable. The furniture seems too rigid? As a poster above said, I am not a designer, so take it for what it’s worth. Good luck, I think you are getting there, it just needs to have a bit more of a relaxed feel.

So based on comments on both threads I've done some changes. First I deiced to experiment with a monochromatic blue color scheme. I've also rearranged a lot of items. I'm still working on it though and would love more feedback. right now I'm trying to decide on lamps and/or chandelier.

    I’m not a designer ( though I can fantasize).
I like the new side tables better than the old ones.
I do not like the dark colour on the walls, I thought your original choice was better.
I think a nice piece of art would look better than that small mirror.
    The fireplace looks lonely.
I think you need nice full side panel drapes on the windows.
Thanks for letting us share this experience with you.
