Are Beaded Chandeliers Dated?

I have one more lighting fixture to choose for my new home. Its for an office area off of a breezeway between the mudroom and the kitchen. I find myself continuously going back to this turquoise beaded chandelier. Its been around for years now, which leads me to wonder if its dated. I originally liked a sea glass one but it was too small for the area. Yay or nay to beaded chandeliers?

This is an adaption / fun interpretation of a light centuries old. Nobody can answer if it is appropriate for your space, or your style w/o pictures and more info. But i'd say it's been around...........awhile : ) Define "dated"

If you love it then do it...

    Doesn't matter if it's "dated"...

Please explain why you would care if something is dated. From my way of thinking, everything is dated, which makes the term meaningless. Better to pay attention to function - I'm not sure much light would come out of the turquoise chandelier.

I was just asking if these chandeliers have seen their day? It's a big investment for something that people will be selling in mass next year on Craigslist for example.

Do YOU LOVE IT? What do you care if a thousand people sell it on Craigs list, if you are loving and keeping it? Value is in the eye of the user and beholder.

Lars there is going to be can lights in the space as well.

There are no pictures of the space yet. its three walls of dry wall. It will have white built in shelving and lower cabinets and the back of the shelving will be wallpapered in a hot pink grass cloth. I would like the space to be bright and cheerful.

The traditional beaded chandelier is old, but still very fitting for a traditional style and I think they are very classy looking. The one you have pictured is not traditional and super fun. It's a new adaptation of something old. I wouldn't call it dated. If you like it and it fits with your style, get it! From your description of the space, I think it would fit wonderfully!

Are you looking at the Curry and Company one? What about a less expensive look-alike?

Bumblebees trendy is a much better word. Yes my fear is that it’s a very hot trend that might be on the down swing. I saw this picture when i searched hot pink grass cloth and thought the two together were so pretty. I just don’t want this to become the harvest gold fridge in the room.

So........... you have your answer and the hell with anyone else. It's a LIGHT. not a marriage. My GAWD. lol

Yes it’s the Curry one. I haven’t been able to find a less expensive option of one. Well take that back i did find one but as the saying goes you get what you paid for where that one was concerned. Then when i read further the small print said it wasn’t even wired ? Hmmm

I really wish this site let you use emojis because Jans last comment calls for the laughing one.

Most people don't change the lighting in their house every couple of years. (Actually most people don't change the lighting in their house every 20 years unless there's something wrong with it). So the people who bought these in 2008 probably still have them and any number of them will be kept long term.

My big thing with these is that they are only good for accent lighting and are very poor at lighting an area on their own, a ton of shadows. If you have recessed lighting and other lighting to do the job, these make a statement.

Yes not a marriage. Certainly an investment.

I vote for emoji's. An invstment is an investment in "happy" ,. Life is short, eat dessert first. Just not every damn day.

These are not "lighting". This is jewelry. Don't expect it to be other than that. Or get a semi flush at Home Depot with 400 watts and bore yourself to death. I forgot to add JEESH.

So........ what if this were your last year on the planet? What then? Home Depot? The fake no wire? Or live in this moment., given it is the moment you have.

There's this one (agree that you wouldn't be happy with a diy substitute)

I think they are fun but the ones I see displayed in stores look rough. Up close there are often twists or kinks in the strands or the beading is uneven. I'm a little ocd and lining up strands would drive me crazy.

No emojis! If you can't make your point with your language skills, you shouldn't be online in the first place.

Oh, and while we're at it, no exclamation points either!

    Oops.

But seriously--the drama queens on here who are too lazy to write something compelling and instead rely on the 'bang'.

Do you think that 61" is the chain and it can be shortened? That seems massive! My ceilings are 10'. Possibly 11' in that space as it has a tray ceiling. Will have to check.

I just showed my husband the Currey one and he said " that looks just like that necklace you have". Followed by a small coronary over the price followed by " maybe you can buy a less expensive light and just hang that necklace on it". I had to laugh because on closer observation I have a jade Dorian Webb necklace that does indeed look like the green beading on the Currey Chandelier LOL! Maybe he will live if I buy the Target one.

Also, the natural beaded ones are all over and in various quality. If I were you I would look at those (in the price you're comfortable with) and get some spray paint...

You can trial it with a row of beads from ebay.

The price of the nice one just would give me very much guilt every day--but that's me.

    This one is on Amazon

    https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Co-Op-Beaded-Chandelier-Height/dp/B00K8E3AAA

If you have to ask and consider the fixture an investment, I would stick to a Target or Amazon level fixture, seek out options on Etsy or resale options you might paint to suit. You don't buy a $5k fixture if you don't consider it a classic and know you will always love it -- or you can afford to redecorate floor to ceiling when you tire of it.

I don't think that fixture will ever be a harvest gold stove kind of thing because the harvest gold stove was in nearly every kitchen that didn't have an avocado green one. They were both common place -- like the faux brass fixtures that gave brass a bad name for so long. What it will always be is a highly stylized piece that will appeal to a limited number of people and fit a limited number of places. So, do you love it and will you be willing to make it a feature when you redecorate -- or be willing to donate it to Habitat when you tire of it? I think those are the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself -- not whether other people give a hoot. it.

For the record, I like it and think something like that would be fun in an office, kid's room -- maybe a bathroom, but I wouldn't spend 4 figures on it.

Also --it's not that it's a beaded chandelier -- it's that it's a very brightly colored and specific taste chandelier.

I found these two . Each under $300 and they have better light than the one Jan posted. Although not bright turquoise , as Penny mentioned I could refinish them.

The first one is 16" diameter by 23" tall and holds three 40 watt bulbs. The second one is 24" around and is 36" tall. It holds three 60 watt bulbs.

If the space is 11' x 13' 9" and there will be built ins on the back wall at 24" deep on the bottom cabinets and the shelving above that will be 12" deep leaving 11' 9" of usable floor space depth. So 11' X 11' 9" of floor space what is the appropriate size for a chandelier for that space? The ceilings are 10'.

    My favorite.

I like the blue chandelier for under $300 and actually prefer it over the turquoise color. It should still go quite well with pink.

    Allison that is hysterical!

I went out to my home site, tape measure in hand and measured out the two sizes. The smaller seemed too small and the larger seemed too large. This will be over a desk thats floating in the space. This is the desk I'm considering. It comes in white.
