needs accessories? if so then what?

I finally finished painting dining room and had chairs and side chairs upholstered. Rug, yes or no? Curtains on French doors, yes or no? What would you suggest for above the side chairs?

You need a light coloured weighted significant focal point on your table on the tall side. I suggest a vase in maple or birch wood in lieu of a refinished tabletop. It can also be ceramic of of the same colour of course.

Ok something to consider and think about; I notice that on Fixer Upper Joanna Gaines has used multiple ceramic vases as center pieces.......something clean lined and sleek? If I do the blinds should their color be light wash medium like bamboo to dark finish....there are so many color to choose from.

Joanna Gaines has the right idea for you I believe for those vases, but you should go with what attracts you. You can have fun with those depending on your personality and the season. Since you have enough dark happening in your furniture, walls, and floor, I would go with the lighter such as bamboo for your Roman blinds. Think "the window to the centerpiece on the table --the centerpiece to the window" to keep a pleasant pull together effect going. You have a rich feeling space already so you won't need too many items to impact. Love the window idea you have.

Susan, if you want to do a shade you can have an operational shade that comes down to the top of the window. It can be raised when you need to use the door. A full length shade would be far to heavy and this is really for illusion. I would find your sisal rug first and choose a woven wood/ bamboo that goes well with it. Looking at your beautiful fabric and furniture this will give you a more relaxed British colonial look. Modern art with large matting ties in the light upholstery and molding. A simple rod and linen side panels.

size and weight of the first vase works well ...with something light radiating out of it of course

Oh I love that idea! Could you make it out if fabric like I want to use in the living room panels or should it be woven bamboo and side panels????? Lots to think about! And yess agree need rug first.
I would do the woven wood / bamboo and side panels Susan. Price it out first and see if it’s feasible.

I’m not sure what your asking though about the living room;)?

Posting to say I'm fascinated with the pattern that fills the back so nicely... :)

I might be 'off' but would a photo be better to put lighting in / without flowers there.

Lyn the curtain panels in the living room will be stationary panels in a floral linen similar to the inspiration room shown above. Easygoing elegance in Irvington home.

I love both of the clean lined linear chandeliers......mine is looking pretty off putting. haha

Rugs? I like both the pattern and the sisal although I have read that Sisal is a nightmare to clean but Seagrass is much more forgiving.....opinions on the rug. Plus my dining room is 11' 6" x 11' 6" and I think I will need to have one cut to fit at ten and one half by ten and one half.......or can I fudge with 8' x 10'? opinions welcome!

Hi Susan, well I think you should go look at rugs. You can think wool/ blend sisal cut to size and bound also if you don’t like the idea of pure sisal. I’m not crazy about the patterned rugs in here though but that’s up to you. You have the print in the other room to consider. As far as the light fixture , I know you want to go more contemporary, that’s good but the linear one seems so out of character for this room; you also have an oval table. That doesn’t jive for me, sorry.

Nice of Grover to do the photo shops for you. The sisal needs to be a warmer color though

I thought these rooms might inspire you. I know you mentioned maps although I think I would look for something a bit more contemporary.

The last chandelier is sooo pretty; looks expensive!

And yes I will look at rugs. I would love a seagrass or seagrass look but size is a problem...can I fudge on the size? The room is pretty much for special days and extra seating as we generally eat in the great room......but I am loving the room and love working on it.

You may be able to have it cut to size and bound. Go price that out.

I don’t know the size of your table Susan but figure at least 24”past the back legs of your chairs all the way around minimum. You need enough room to pull the chair out without catching the rug. 36” would be better but I don’t think you have that much room.

    Susan-

Please be mindful of the diameter of the chandelier you purchase.

In order to be in proportion, its diameter should not be greater than 3/4 of the width of your table.

Yes, well most of these fixtures I posted are smaller than your present 12 light candy. You might want to hold off on changing that until you get carpet and art. I don’t dislike it with your wall color and traditional furniture though but can understand if you want a change. I do prefer a bit to large than to small though;)!

I do like this Visual Comfort fixture as it has 8 lights in a fairly compact size. It is also a classic look , an updated , transitional design that has some weight to it that will stand up to your wall color.

I just reread all the comments and pictures of chandelier and I want to thank everyone for their advice etc....will be looking at rug ideas first.....Groveraxle do you really think I should abandon the idea of curtains in the DR? The room is not especially large but it is open feeling. Would like to hear your reasoning behind no curtains....and that does work for me! haha.

Lindsey I really like the chandelier and the price that you suggested...where can I find more info about it.....correct sizing for chandelier is 24 inches in diameter as the room if almost 12' x 12', and the price really works for me....

could you send the manufacturer or where you sourced it?

Thanks for all the feed back everyone! Rug shopping for sure!

Susan, I also don’t think you need anything on your door as I stated previously. The trim is very nice and the wall color lovely.

Susan Davis, I almost always prefer naked windows when the casings are prominent like yours. That goes double for French doors. Your doors are pretty and don't need gilding, curtains really serve no purpose there, and they would take up space between the wall and the dining chair, space that I'd rather see left open.

    Dear Groveraxle,

Thank you for your reasoning and design advice! I too like them clean so the room can show to advantage. One down, two to go....rug and art.....I am thinking modern to shake things up!

Lyn, I hope that is your name? I like the Montelena too; a contemporary vibe and leaning toward frame free canvas contemporary art, or Van Gogh! Love him!

    Opinions please.

I’m sure you will know when you see it Susan; you have done a wonderful job up to now and art is a personal choice. Look forward to seeing your room when done. I think it looks lovely now !

This Williams Sonoma rug would be interesting...
Love your wall color and beautiful furniture, Susan . I like Jan Moyer’s idea of a textured sisal. Other options would be a Persian with many multi-colors in contemporary hues ( ie. purples, reds ,teals, rust ) or a cream area rug with subtle rust accents . If using a sisal or cream rug, I would use contemporary , brightly- colored artwork. If using a brightly - colored Persian, I would use either two matching round mirrors ( ie. metal sunburst or light colored wood encased ) or contemporary art pieces with a lot of white. I suggest two seagrass or tortoise shell rattan Roman blinds only on the glass portion of the doors. Unsolicited, I know, but I would change out your light fixture for something smaller ( perhaps a simple brass lantern or orb ) as well as a series of small, short simple crystal vases with grass type greenery on the table, so as to enhance the beauty of your china cabinet.
