Pillows for sectional

Yes, I have a behometh sectional & need some pillows! I would love to add some blue/cream/white with maybe a touch of paprika.

I look on Etsy and get totally overwhelmed with so many fabrics. I'd like to do some really nice fabrics & down filled pillows. These are some I've liked.......

Pictures of space-

Bland & boring! I may be way off base, but would like to pull the blue/white pieces & chair around the area.

Becky, thanks! I used to have a Bunny WIlliams picture with a throw for her dogs, but it wasn't leopard. The dog loves his blankie:)

I would've loved drapes out of yummy fabrics, but pillows are more my budget!! Truthfully, IKEA is more my budget ;), but.........

I want roman shades out of the bird Lisa Fine, so I'd like to have that fabric on the sectional-since it's all open.

Anything y'all see that would work with that fabric?

Maybe I should add a leopard pillow also?

    What configuration?

I think they all pretty much go together, peppa, which is a good thing.

Are you happy with the current configuration in terms of sizes?

I'm going to see if I can find a picture of Maura Endres's sofa with her tiger pillow in the midst of all the blue and white loveliness...

From Maura Endres's IG (she has a throw on her sofa too, I think as much for the humans as for the dogs...),

You have a wonderful place, but I wonder if some slight decluttering wouldn't help. The coffee table seems overloaded with bulky objects. When in doubt, stacks of books with perhaps a blue and white plate or small bowl would give a lighter look. I'd think about removing the large candle holder at the base of the fireplace and just put blue and white porcelain on the mantel, three on one side and two on the other if you have them. I would move the chair by the fireplace to the sofa area and also the ceramic garden stool. I hope you're not offended by all this unsolicited advice. I feel badly about your doggie, that's the sad part about having our wonderful pets, when they get older and infirm.

Too contemporary probably... it'd help to see couch closer...

Pillows are kinda small, and the fp is large - so I'd add more fabric in a throw - this comes in a orange tangerine, etc...

Becky, yummy!! Yes, a leopard pillow has to be included. And I want the pillows to look a little haphazard, as well. Not perfect & added along the way.

Pulled out Mark Sikes book..... I think it takes true style to pull this off, though & Im not certain of my skills!!

Ingrid, absolutely welcome!! I get blind eyes & have such a hard time with editing! So, I removed the candle holder by FP & moved chair & stool. The coffee table......I tried some:) Need to work on that some more!

Space by the FP-does it seem empty now? I know the crewel chair wasn't perfect there, but don't know what it needs?

    last modified: 8 years ago

I liked crewel chair..:) yes it's a bit odd-thus wonderful

I liked some of your fabrics very much. the one with birds, and Peter Durham one..

I agree about one or two "counterpoint" pillows, these should be huge fun to choose too

check eBay as well...they have some fabulous stuff there. Unfortunately for me, mostly in UK..:) but pillows/pilllow covers, they do ship, at least

and I think I recently saw the pillow Bunny Williams used! (hers has a dog printed on it) I need to remember where. If you want me to. They have a couple of different animals. I felt in love with a bunny one.

What a lovely space. It's so comfortable looking. I also keep leopard and other furry throws for our 4-legged friends. It's their house too.

Evrdez, thank you for your suggestions!! I'm wanting more natural fabrics & am drawn to these hand blocked /lineny fabrics. A new throw will be needed for summer.

April, thanks! Yes, I'd love to see the Bunny pillows:) And I'm definitely doing a leopard lumbar.

Thanks, Cindymac! I wish I had bought extras of the leopard at Sams a few years ago. I say my dogs let me live in their house!

I do like the chair by the sectional, but what to put by the FP?

peppa, I think you're well on the way to Mark Sikes territory : ) .

Do you really need anything by the FP, especially if on the other side of it you have the chairs and small table?

    Your home is gorgeous!

Our of your pillow choices I don't care for 10 (I always see an eyeball when I look at that design) & 11 I think is too green for the room. I like the others. I liked the room both arrangements. I like the stuff on the coffee table (love the PB lantern - it also added height). Yes, to paprika! Just a sprinkle in there. (Haha) I do think the color would be nice. What size are your current throw pillows?

Best pillows...I like the first 6, then 8, 12, 14, & 15 so I'm really not helping either. If you're using the cream bird fabric to relate to the roman shades (pretty fabric and good idea) then maybe one of the ones with more blue for the larger pillows would be good. You'll do fine picking! Just come back and show us. :)

Huge 'air space' and fireplace and behemoth - so I don't see tiny patterns, or maybe even medium; it's one reason I like the throw with larger 'stripes' for impact. Any chance pretty chair instead of petite bench by the stairs? idk, and seeing even more of your rooms would be good.

peppapoodle, I eyeballed your fireplace again and I think you'll probably need a little time to get used to the "empty" space but then something else struck me. The picture you have on the mantel is nice, but I think a larger and brighter oil painting would balance out the size of the fireplace without adding any clutter. The painting on the wall in the first picture you show of the Mark Sikes book is similar to what I had in mind, not so much wider but taller than what you have, and with some warm reds and greens to balance out the many blues you have and will have more of with the pillows. I like the chair near the sofa much better.

Since I have many of those exact pillows from the same Etsy store in a special favorites list just for pillows, I say stick to your block print guns : ) .

    You have a lovely home!

I like your pillow choices- 3, 6 and your last row. I too would put the hurricane candle holder back on the coffee table, it adds needed height. I agree about not needing anything by the fireplace, but maybe try the garden stool on the outside of the chair. Oh, and I love your bench!

oh I love block prints, no question

whatever I linked to-it's more " pièce de résistance" lol. not instead, no no no

one doesn't need anything by the fireplace of course

yet I somehow love the idea of sitting in an unexpected place. Gives you a different perspective. One doesn't need a chair for it of course. One can sit on a step. Even on the floor. The idea itself is strangely appealing though. Not in terms of balance or decor or the room itself. Just as an unrelated idea.

    Thank you all so much!!

April, those pillows are fun!! I wish I could afford the dachshund & French bulldog for dear friends & I may do that! The bunny is adorable & may have to come live with me since I'm wanting a bunny:) I'll think about your cute personality when I order something funky!!

So, I added back the hurricane & a plant!! I love the candle coming on each evening, hydrangeas-need I say anything else?!?, the candle in the middle is huge & smells wonderful, box for the hundred remotes(kidding, almost!) and DH welded the nut bowl & it has photos in it. So, it's all stuff I love.

Ingrid, the pic over the FP is a placeholder until I find something, as is the mantle wood, too. I see what you are saying & it'll happen eventually.

Becky, we must have similar taste!

I moved the chair to the bedroom, for now. Trying to adjust to the FP area being empty. But, it's really not......it's a huge FP (DH most wanted thing) & there are seats on the hearth! I'll probably pull the chair back in, though.

I have studied fabrics, obsessed over these fabrics & configurations. I'm going to work on learning photoshop & play.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to comment and add to this-other areas of the room, as well. This is why I keep coming back here -so much knowledge:)

i vote a home lived in by very active and intellectual souls.

do you want me to toss the pillows?

Well, I have an update & TBH......I’m a little underwhelmed..........

Maybe I didn’t go big enough or get enough??I was trying to use down inserts I already had.

Im so glad y’all convinced me to remove the chair!!!

I got kicked off of houzz on my iPad & only have it on my phone now. Ugh!!!

Here’s a close up with a fluff ball.......

What sweethearts, both of them. I can't even imagine life without a furry friend or two. The house seems so empty. (There are only two of us, which I love, but must have a fur ball.)

It's probably just me (well, actually, almost any interior designer), but just one very large seating option with no additional seating, does tend to make a room look unbalanced. That particular chair may not be the answer, but it does seem to me that something more is needed. You have a very nice home, stylish and yet warm and relaxed.

Thank you, Ingrid! I totally agree on the furballs:) & needing another seating option. I actually put the crewel chair out for my mom- elderly & has trouble getting out of deep furniture. But y’all helped me see it was fighting with stone FP.

I do have this chair- smaller & upright. Thoughts? Smaller side table- maybe metal?

    (Leopard pillow needs an insert)

I think bigger or bluer or at least one matching pair?

I have to be honest, I've had a long day hosting a community party and I can't see straight, so I'll look again tomorrow after a good night's sleep : ) .

I don't, understand blue pillows? everz, you must not love me any more! I have a giant folder filled with blue pillows.

love the fuzzies, give you some update on their pillows too. maybe a couple fuzzies statement pillows too. off on a wild ride! animal ones this section

All I can say is, if her place is cluttered, I'm in
    real trouble.

Ok, I'm looking at the pics again and have a few more thoughts : ) .

    1) I'm wondering if the pillows look better in real life than in a photo, where one by necessity has to stand further back to get the entire sectional in the frame.

    2) the PD Samarkand pillows, which are gorgeous, are I think the right size/scale for pillows for your big sectional.

    3) I think the loose and airy prints in the light colorways (Samarkand, Carmania, Taj etc) might be a little too light and airy for the large expanse of light-colored sofa. Darker pillows, and at least one more matching pair, would ground the eye more.

    4) I would consider adding two or three large cushions (same size as Samarkand) in something like the dark blue Kashmir paisley print (or something similar, like the navy ikat).

I love that room and your pillow choices, and your pup is adorable : ) .

I can vaguely remember, weren't faux fur pillows in vogue loooong ago? Everything seems to come around again, although the new iteration seems more sophisticated (and probably a lot more expensive). The chair looks good there, although something with a little more presence might be better. I quite like the terracotta chairs in the Mark Sykes book. It plays off well against the blue and white Chinese porcelain. The white table - perhaps not.

Becky- thanks for your thoughts!! I had these dark blue pillows& am liking how they seem to ground the pillows a bit more. Is this more what you were thinking?

And Ingrid..... I’m trying to declutter the coffee table!!!
