We are often asked this question here and unfortunately there is no way to know which of the 100 possible varieties they are other than to say they appear to be cherry-sized and have dark green shoulders at this stage. And, since they are volunteers, they may not be any true variety but a hybrid throwback.

However your plant is desperately in need of nutrients. Note the purple color of the veins and stems and the anemic green color of the leaves? Both are clear signs of nutrient deprivation and the need for feeding.

thanks so much!!

I didn’t know they needed more fert. I give them Foliage Pro after I water, but they are in a pot with a bunch of other things too, maybe the plants argue over it. Interesting I never thought about that before.

Whatever eats them has a round-ish, but rough-edged, bite. Like if you had a mellon-baller with a fluted edge, sort of. I never see anything up there. I guess it could be a squirrel.

I think there's anthocyanin in the foliage (unless that's phosphorus deficiency) and stems (I don't know that phosphorous deficiency would make stems purple). I don't see any in the fruit. That's interesting.

The plant does look nutrient-deprived, though. I agree.
