I should have mentioned it sits in a windowless office (I've had it about 6 months now) which stays consistently between 65 and 72 degrees, and I use a LED grow light that clips onto my desk to give it light overnight when the florescent office lights are off. I leave it under the grow light for 12 hours each night. The light is short, so the leaves are at most 6 inches from the light.

So it's not actual sunburn but could it be too close to the light? Hmm.

Is it mushy? I had a spot on a previous orchid that was soft and spread. Ended up cutting it off, applying cinnamon and it's been okay ever since.

6" is fine as far as distance from the light. You should run the LED light @ 16 hrs/day and leave it off overnight. The orchid will appreciate the 8 hours of darkness and it might induce blooming.

Nicole, it is thin and papery/dry where it had died off earliest, but the edges of the spot where it is spreading seem to be still partially hydrated cells. But I would not say mushy.

Westoh, Thank you for the advice! I have just implemented the new lighting schedule. Fingers crossed it does induce a bloom stalk. :-)
