Lol ... I’m no expert on lighting but for mine ( other than inside closets ) I buy soft white, three way so that I can turn it up or down. There are others on here more knowledgeable than me on the subject.

Depends upon the shade somewhat ... yes, probably slightly gold or warmish but I like that in my bedroom. Your husband ‘s comment made me laugh, I said my neighbor’s dining room makes me feel like I’m dining in a bus station .... they have a zillion recessed lights, high wattage without dimmers, no chandelier.

I use GE Reveal in everything.

I never had luck with the GE Reveal bulbs; they would last about 3-4 weeks, then die. So quit buying them.

They're neutral—they give a very true color rendering (not sure that’s the right verbiage.)

Edit: I just looked at a package of 43w (60w equivalent) Reveals and the temperature is 2900K.

I agree that in the bedroom, light bulbs should be in the 2700-3000K range - that is what we use in our showrooms with our LED light bulbs. When I was in my 20s, I put [pink light bulbs[(https://www.houzz.com/products/ge-lighting-97483-ge-light-bulb-60w-soft-pink-8-bulbs-prvw-vr~85835692) in my bedroom, but that did make it look a bit like a bordello. However, if you want a seductive look in your bedroom, you could consider that. Better a bordello than a 7-11.

Here’s a pic of GE Reveal halogen spectrum hubby picked up today. Still looks kind of golden to me. Other one with drapes drawn. Still going to look for a more neutral led.

I think the problem is your shades. They don't seem to allow any light to pass through to give that "glowing" feeling. All the light has to go up or down and looks a bit harsh.

You're probably using different light bulbs in the original pic -- one lamp even seems to glow yellow. Try the new LED 1600 lumens bulbs if you want a bright light. If you want a less bright light, you might consider using blue bulbs.

LEDs aren't good for bedrooms. You need incandescent.

I had incandescent pink, such a nice glow! In other lamps I have soft white, but pink shades. Also good :)

Suezbell yes, in the original picture the right one was too warm, then we tried the high lumens and was wayyy to bright, cold and harsh. Was told 3,500 is neutral but hubby could only find 2700 or 5000, nothing in the middle. We have soft greys (will be painting Worldly Grey) contemporary home. Hope this helps.

With LEDs it is hit and miss. It’s a pain in the neck to find the right bulb. Some LED bulbs don’t do well on the high-low or 3-way switching... they can flicker. You need to look for dimmable bulbs in addition to the right color temperature and lumen output.

Incandescents were definitely simpler.

To answer some of your thoughts. I’m not a girlie girl and other than the mostly traditional duvet cover, we like contemporary. So pink lightbulbs, no. No to blue bulbs, ha. Yes our lampshades have a silver lining that blocks light from going through them, maybe have to look for new ones. So confused about bulbs, never thought this would be so difficult. If anyone has pictures that would help.

Maybe that silver lining is causing the light to appear brighter/harsher. Do you have any other "normal" shades or another lamp in the house that you can try in the room?

If you have an Ikea near you, you should check out the Tradfri. It's a smart lighting system -- the bulbs are programmable so multiple bulbs can be on one remote, they are dimmable and can be adjusted from warm to cold.

After he shopped for two days for bulbs and numerous returns, I better hide myself!

At the Home Depot I go to, there is a display of LED light bulb lit so that you can see how they look. It's really difficult to tell just from the numbers. Wherever you buy light bulbs, you should see them lit in the store before you buy them.

Lars Yes it couldn’t be more difficult to find the “right” lightbulb. We went to our local Home Depot, used the box machine for color, chose the bright white (middle) but they only had soft white or daylight. The bright white bulbs were dimmable and didn’t work in our lamps. Also went to Lowe’s.
You would have to be a lighting professor to figure out what all the numbers mean. Pure chance that the GE Reveal 40 watt bulbs look just right for our bedroom (Walmart’s). Now to find a three way bulb for our den that is not yellow. I know I’m venting. How on earth can you get a consistent look in a home?

Maybe I should buy the bulbs from your showrooms. They (2700-3000) are hard to find!

LOL. We felt like that when we were down to one bulb in the bathroom. I replace the 2 bulbs that were out...talk about bright!! You just need to drop the temp to about 30 degrees and it's definitely 7-11 ;-)

These are the ones I got for our showroom; they are 2700K, 60W equivalent (800 lumens), but they are not dimmable. I think Home Depot sells these also, but they do not always have inventory in certain stores. These are dimmable, but they are not the ones we use, and supposed they dim from 2700K to 2200K, and so the color changes.

I bought Philips because at the time, they were the only ones that were UL listed, and that was important for the showroom. I generally do prefer the Philips brand, and I prefer the non-dimmable ones when possible. I've had problems with LED light bulbs flickering when dimmed.

You can do all daylight but lower lumens...best to do all of daylight...when you mix them some will look very yellow...or very blue...daylight is my favorite it is a real natural color of light.
