They are recommended for your zone by the Sunset Western Garden book and provided they get a reasonable amount of afternoon shade, they should be fine. This is a very tough and hardy plant and is often used here in untended commercial plantings because of its ability to withstand a range of growing conditions, sometimes rather harsh and neglected.
