Top it off!

Please help me decorate the top of these 2 units. This is so much brown, so how do I add color and what types of items fit this rustic area. Thanks to all the late nighters reading this thread.

Perhaps something burgundy? Like a picture frame or plush something or other. I'm a builder, not a designer...perhaps if you post in design dilemma you'd have more help. Otherwise, I think the room looks great!

    I wouldn’t add anything...

Fake plants are just dust collectors and look dated, IMO.

Remove approx 1/3 of the items you have on those shelves now. You should have at least a few completely empty “pukas”. Then, you could put a vibrant art print on top...leaned up against the wall. Right now, there’s too much there and they are all the same size. Vary the sizes of what you display.

Or....put all the cowboy sculptures up on top....that would free up shelves.

What a gorgeous place! I agree with a previous comment to remove 1/3 to 1/2 of the decorations. There are too many things in the spaces.

Nothing! It would just be too much clutter. If you want to have less brown you could use some more colors and textures with your accessories.

No need to have anything on top of either. Less is more.

I definitely think you need to add some plants! Nothing too fussy though and not fake unless they are succulents from Crate and Barrel which look extremely real. I agree with the other comments about less is more. Remove everything from the top of the wall unit in the living room. A simple large cream low bowl. As for the wall unit in the living room, you have too many of the same visual textures (all of the statues). Keep some but again, adding a few small bowls of succulents would bring some different visual texture. Some light pottery (creams, whites) would break up all of the brown. Books are always a nice touch (hardcovers, remove the dust covers though and if possible use whites, creams and tans). Going to used book stores is a great place to find books on the cheap (even if you don't plan on reading them). Stack some vertically and some horizontally. You can also place them with the 'page-side' facing out which will show them as white or cream. Hope this helps.
