Looks like a lovely home. The biggest improvement you can make is to the landscaping. Get with a landscape designer for a plan. The current landscaping looks like it has been there a long time and hasn't been maintained well lately.

Once you get the new landscaping in, you will see a massive difference.

No to shutters on the front. The windows are too wide for shutters. In fact, you have great windows, don't clutter up the facade with ill-fitting, inappropriate shutters.

The landscaping looks like sprawling moss growing on a rock. I would take it out, put in a wide porch, and put in more ordered landscaping. As for the brown roof — I don’t see the problem. If the roof doesn’t leak and isn’t old, replacing it for asthetic reasons would be silly. Despite whatever “kootenaycapable” may say, a window on the porch won’t add TOO much because, think about it, between the two layers of the roof and the porch flooring extending forwards, how much are you going to see? I suspect the current porch was constructed to provide shelter from the prevailing winds in your area. You may not find it attractive but, if you open it and the winds come from the left (photo) you may not be happy.

I love the sweetness of this home.

The only thing I would add is new landscaping that incorporates a small front patio with a bench.

This would make it so inviting.
