Must this be used with an Edison style bulb? I would rather use an LED bulb that's more practical over my kitchen cabinets and don't like the Edison style for this application.

You should be able to use any type of bulb you like as long as it has an "E" size socket and is less than the equivalent of an incandescent 100w bulb.
