Bedroom layout ideas!?

Hi everyone! I really could use some advice on how to layout this room. I just moved in to a 1930s Tudor and renovated this upstairs bedroom. It’s really cool, and I love my furniture but the dilemma is: I need room for a desk in here. I’m not going to keep the white IKEA desk I currently have though, it’s too wobbly. I like the bed on this side of the room, I tried the other side and it feels too stuck to the door. The couch placement is what I can’t get to feel right. I tried in front of the window, the left of the wall, now the right. Should I float it to the center of the room more? Please also give ideas of styling and colors? It just feels so plain right now. I need ideas on: another nightstand, lamps, rugs, and a desk. Thanks!

I think it’s blue. Here’s that other one in blue....

I have this one and I really love it. It’s actually made out of denim scraps and super soft

So many options lol. I don’t know what to do.

Oh this one you posted is perfect!

I don’t think the sofa will look good in front of the bed, it’s too big and will feel awkward there. I would do as someone else mentioned, put the desk under the window with a cool desk lamp on it. Center the sofa on the wall that it’s on, then get a couple of inexpensive, but cool, side tables at Target, something rounded or curvy. Everything is now angular....

What size rugs were those you showed us?
I love that rug!! But I don’t know how it’ll look with the indigo sofa. Here’s another rug lol

All the rugs I’m looking at are 5x8.

It will look great! Navy blue and black are great together.

I’ve always wanted that rug too lol. Well my blue curtains won’t go but that’s an easy fix lol. What color should my curtains be?
I’d just do white/cream curtains to match the walls....ikea basics....

Is that rug a flat weave? Like a wool dhurrie, Kilim type rug? I love the patterns of those but to me, they are very scratchy and don’t feel good under foot. Could you size up to an 8 x 10?
It says wool. It’s called the Colca rug by West Elm. I’d love an 8x10 but the 5x8 is what I can afford right now. I think it’ll still fit the space well. I measured it out.

I think my all time fav WE rug is the Torres and it’s a kilim, but I love the design. It’s on sale now too...the PB one reminded me of it. But off course they are owned by the same company so I guess that’s no surprise....

If you have always loved the Colca then I say go for it! I think it will look really good, too
  • 8 years ago
I like them both! Im going to move my space around again, get a feel for things and then decide on a rug! Im going to try the sofa in front of the bed just to see how it looks, but I like the desk in front of the window idea too.

What do you think of this desk?

It’s solid sheesham wood. I’ve seen it and it’s really nice. The grain and color of the wood is really pretty. It’s 50” wide.
It’s cool. Why does it look curved though?
Because it is. But very slightly.

What if you kept the sofa on the same wall but just scooted it more towards the window, and then you could place a desk perpendicular to that wall (so basically coming out into the room) with the back of the desk chair facing the shelves....

    Am I making any sense?

So basically that shelf area and desk could be like a little “office” area....

Gets some cool baskets or containers to organized your stuff on those shelves....
Oh that’s a cool idea. Like this kinda? But on a smaller scale? With the shelves behind the chair?
Oh wait, I see the sofa is already against the end wall...

    Ok,
Try centering the sofa and move your desk under the window and maybe show us how that looks?

Did you try the sofa at the end of the bed? Just curious to see how it looked...
    Yes
No haven’t done it yet. I will see how it looks later and post a picture :)
Or just take that top shelf off and make that your built-in desk. Get some good lighting there.

It would free up floor space and give you room for one of those cute Target tables :)
Lol I tried that. I’ll show you that too. It does work. I just feel like I’m confined to a corner lol
  • 8 years ago
Well, you are, but we can fix that!

Post a picture of that on a new thread and see what ideas you get!!!

May I ask, what are you studying in college?
Hehe, I’m studying marketing and business, why do you ask? :)
I just thought maybe you were studying in a design field....I have a son in business and daughter in graphic design....in college.

    Sorry!
Oh how funny I love graphic design too, but I’m learning it on the side. I’m still deciding if design is just a hobby or a passion. I may go back to school for something else when I’m done.

Thoughts on this rug from world market ? Could this work?

    Yes!

    Try it out....then you’ll know...
    Haha decisions decisions
My motto....when in doubt; try it out.

...as long as its returnable and I don’t have to pay to ship it back.
Good motto! I think I’m leaning towards the WE rug! I think that’s the one.
    Two thumbs up!

Just don’t paint your walls West Elm orange or yellow or bright green....ugh

    Who picks this crap??

    Or peach....h-ll no.

Your blue curtains and sofa will go great with this rug...you would not have to change them....it really is a great rug will add texture to the room..please still try the sofa at the end if your bed..you have the perfect set up for it. Queen bed is 80”.....plus add at least another 4” of comforter-on the sides..sofa is 82” should fit perfect...the soft neutral tan will pull the wood color of your dresser into the room and the soft grey connects the color from your bedding....the black adds contrast and will ground the space...the navy blue will look great with this color combination.

When you try the sofa at the end of the bed, can you snap a picture for us? Thx

Haha thanks everyone for helping make an easy decision! So sofa is centered to the wall now too, which means room for a side table and or a standing lamp. I will post updates of how the room is coming along, especially when I get my new rug :)
