I like it with just the flowers. Beautiful. I may be in the minority but I feel like a lamp + the big flower arrangement might be too much. If you want to add something else, maybe a lower bowl or tray of some kind.

Your chest is lovely. I agree that the mirror is a tad big for it. Perhaps you could find another spot for it, since it is so very nice as well? I would probably add a pretty bowl- something with a design on it.

BTW, your chest style is bombé, which is the French word for convex. Calling it Bombay harkens to the Anglo-Indian inspired furniture from a chain store in the 80s. Your chest is much nicer than what Bombay Company sold :-)

The curves of the bombe chest really call for a smaller, curvier mirror with a whimsical frame, similar to what the first responder shows above. I wouldn't put too much on the chest itself; it can so quickly look like meaningless clutter unless the pieces are of very fine quality.

Ingrid, I really admire your ability to explain exactly what to do and how. I am a fairly strong writer and have a pretty good sense of how to pull together a house, but you manage to say precisely what needs to be done.

I LOVE mine!! Wish I could have that style in every room. Let it be as it is. No need to clutter up the top.

This is when having a good relationship with a local lamp store comes in VERY handy. Most will allow one to bring home 2-3 lamps to try for a day or so. It's far easier to do that than order online and then have to re-box and ship the darned thing back if one doesn't like it.
