Backsplash advice

We are about 5 weeks away from starting our kitchen remodel. New cabinets and quartz countertops.

My delemia is whether or not to put in a backsplash and if YES where would it end?? If at end of cabinets then what do I do with the cut-out wall above the sink? I think it might just look best w no backsplash.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!

When you say, "no backsplash" do you mean that you intend to do just a counter and painted walls or a counter and a matching 4" backsplash and painted walls above (what you have now)?

If the former, you'll have to make sure that your fabricator knows this so that they cut the counters carefully to meet the wall with very little gap between the two. Normally, backsplash tile will cover any gap but you won't have that. This is harder to do because walls are rarely plumb.

My vote would be to add a backsplash up to the bottoms of the cabinets, and straight across the wall above the sink at the same height.

I gotta run but I'll find you examples of this later.

I would close in the cutout and open the left wall down to the countertop

Lisa I meant keep a 4" backsplash and paint above it.

JCK910 funny that you suggested removing the wall....We researched doing that for the wall on the right which would open up our beautiful golf course view but we just do not have the $$ to do that. Ahh great minds think alike!!

Getting rid of the cut out wall needs to be part of your remodel. And you need a back splash that goes to the bottom of the cabinets, it's not only functional but it's one of the key visual pieces of interest in the space.

If it were my space, I’d request to get rid of the arch, make it square, trim around it with a ledge than tile all the way up or till under the cabinet height and over.

However, that look is dated and less commonly done now. Most kitchens these days have a tile backsplash that goes up to the wall to the bottom of the cabinets or to the hood.

Are your cabinets already ordered? If not, post your lay-out for feedback. One thing I see in your photo is the lack of at least a 12" cabinet between sink and DW. A cabinet between will allow you to stand at the sink and load the DW more easily and safely. It doesn't look like you have room to do this to the right but you could move the DW to the left side, between sink and fridge.

Also, I encourage you to go with drawer bases as much as possible. They provide much more efficient storage.

Lisa...Thanks for your advice but there is no room to the the right of the DW. We have a walkthrough to the dining area and to the right of that is stove and frig...a very small space! We did order pull out drawers for our lower cabinets...we're too old to bend that far down lol!

That's why I suggested moving the DW to the left of the sink. That would also give you prep space between sink and range that isn't over a DW.

And oops, I thought the white thing I saw to the left was the fridge but it's a wall. Sorry about my error.

One photo is not adequate to help you here. I too would close the pass through.
