Window treatment help!

Hi! This is my sons room (excuse the mess!!). It is a small room and the is the only window. The walls are prescott green...eventually we'll get him big boy furniture/bedding...I want a window treatment that will make the room look big and need a black out option. What would be best? Panel vs something w/in the window frame? Also, would I have to pick something light in color? Or would that not matter?? Help!! :-)

I agree with CWS and JMD, cordless is the way to go. If you expand the picture I posted above, you will see small handles on the rails of the shades. This is how they operate without cords. They don't even have cords hanging in the middle of your window like all the other top-down/bottom-up shades.

You would like a Day/Night shade. It has 2 shades, 1 on top of the other. The blackout is on the bottom, then a translucent on top. The "day" shade should be a good neutral color like a white or cream. You could use a fun fabric for the blackout. I have 2 toddlers myself, both boys, and I know you will want something that allows him to sleep in as long as possible.

A mid tone color for the drapes hung on the outside of the window frame will give the window a larger look. use a black out material on the back of the curtains. Shades also come in handy with a color the matches the curtains.

Cordless Day night shades are a great solution. If they are too pricey, try a cordless top down bottom up in a black out fabric. It provides similar functionality but does not have the light filtering component. I highly suggest cordless for child safety!

No cords in a child's room! You can get cordless roman shades, or a cordless woven wood shade with a blackout liner. Mount it outside the frame, reverse mounted so the shade is flush with the window frame and will have the least light gaps. You have limited height to add side panels. Probably need to do ceiling mount if you go that route.
