Replacing the mantle with a more modern wood slab would be a nice upgrade, you can choose a stain which complements your style.

The floor is pretty but very busy so the rug you choose is great, it will really help to tone it down a bit. An art piece on the wall and/or fireplace that could tie the aqua and orange together would be very important to making the room work.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are looking for a more modern mantle cut from a downwed tree post Irma. It would have a story. I hate to create more stuff for the land fill and rip up a floor that was just placed. I’ll try the rug and see how much floor it mellows. Haven’t found the perfect piece of art for over the fire place. My next mission.

The floor runs down the hall to the front door. Maybe add a runner there? Looks like more Chip and Joanne influences. Dislike the fixtures. Would like more modern, but maybe it will not look cohesive.
