Just got this console table delivered from Zgallarie. My family hates it. lol. I was going to do a wall collage of gold frames on top. But think this all over powering now that I see it. Any advice. Please help. My house is more transitional

I love Z-gallerie. What I dislike about the table is that when I have been in the store and seen it in person the base looks plastic to me. It may not be but it has the appearance of plastic imo. There are many other items that they have that I think would look fantastic in your space. There are so many items that they carry that I LOVE, in fact, my living room furniture is from there. I would suggest looking into exchanging the table. The rug I think is workable but not ideal.

I'm not sure how it would look but I would give this a try. I would remove the rugs by the front door and put the cowhide there instead. Then with the exchange of the table, I would purchase a couple of pieces of art and/or an entry chandelier. I don't think the area you have posted needs much more than that.

Tried to put together a mock up of your dining room but hard because i don’t have a clean photo. Maybe you can use your imagination.

Your chandelier is hung way too high. I also used the silver version of that table. If you can’t exchange it, you could put a black wash on it to tone that gold down.

I'm with Flo and London as far as toning down the gold. It is just too over the top. I do like the shape of the table, it is unique. I just don't like the color.

Yes it is a unique piece and I like it. It is the gold that is not working.

Holy pizzolis! That table just is too too very very....and doesn’t blend with the rest of your home. Plus, I suspect that as much as you like it now, inside of a few months you will be kicking yourself for giving in to impulse.
Hmmmm certainly unusual, it's the gold that's not working, you would have been better with silver, surely they would change it for you, otherwise get the silver spray paint out. Just some images I found.

    Just "no"....

Upon first look, it reminds me of a gold tooth. HOWEVER, I think you can definitely salvage it. You'll need to ditch the gold-sparkly rug and replace it with another, subtle one. You could soften the look of the table by doing the photo collage with rustic/driftwood frames. Maybe place a floor plant next to the table. Overall, tone down the accessories and you may be able to pull it off.

This table from Z Gallerie will accommodate the baseboard register.

Call them, explain the table is not working and could you exchange it for something else of equal value. It won't hurt to ask.

I also think it's really cool! -- but definitely the wrong color. I would try to figure out a way to stain or paint it something darker.

It is just waaaay too visually heavy for your home. Maybe in the dining room, in silver..but no matter how you decorate it doesn't fit in the style/type of your home.

I guess the question is....Do you like it?

I think the gold console need to be seen from the front to give the full effect. You will never get that look in a narrow hallway. It also needs a full wall above it.

    Sure, why not?

I just don't see this piece in this home. I am always looking for "surprise" items that can bring whimsy or surprising interest, but this piece is just not working here. So many other good choices.

OT here: I must be losing it. The first time I saw the OP's very first image, the only visual I got was (inappropriate) visual reminding me of the backside of the charging bull statue in NYC. Obviously its on a smaller scale...

This image, but the rear side and not the front. Not posting the other side on this forum :) Did anyone else see something else?

Denita, that’s so funny. But I can see a rhinoceros - minus the tusk!

Oh, Wow! I love that store and love your home. But No. Yes, it looks like a bulky animal walking. Get lamps or art for the dining room. They have beautiful things.

I’m so sorry, the console is a nightmare!

I am sorry, but this table just doesn't work for your home. I hope you can return or exchange it.

Did you order it without seeing it in person? Z Gallery has several stores in my area and I've bought a few decorating accents for my master bedroom.

I saw elephant. And I think it is way cool. But it only would work in very few spaces. I don't think your home is one of those spaces. Yet ;)

    Send it to Donald Trump?

What if you painted all the flat surfaces with black and just left the "live" surfaces (insides) gold? That would definitely tone it done.

I’m sure the OP has already gotten the message. No need to beat a dead horse.

I love the table but agree not placed here. The piece is so ornate and beautiful, I think anything "busy" above would too much. Can you move to a dining room with a simple mirror above?

Return it. : ) So that it may become someone else's mistake

I think it would work well in your dining room. Grover's photos give a good visual to that. a few people suggested that with different scenarios (Darzy above and a simple mirror above for example)

I also would suggest that people take an extra 4 seconds and think about what they write here- some of the comments come across as downright hurtful and mean spirited and I doubt that was the intention.

It is very easy to get lost in the appeal of any particular thing. But nothing ever lives in isolation, it lives in the context of all else in a space. A mistake isn't a sin, it's the simple recognition that maybe a given thing doesn't work like you planned.

That piece in particular, needs a lot of space and air. A city loft, huge windows..... a very large white space and allow it to dominate. .........

Less than that ? It will completely take over., but not in a good way. Which was probably not the intent in this case : ) The intent matters.

It’s hideous in that context. And 99% of all others as well. Return it.

Hire a Designer. You feel the need for some individual touches in the giant amount of bland fad generica. Your instincts are correct. But the cure for that is not a “pop” of anything. It is to get rid of much of the fad generica. That’s the issue. No “accessories”. Accessories will never make up for a lack of bones.

Ok end result I love the piece but doesn’t look right in my home. I’m going to return it (pay annoying stocking fee). But better than a total loss!!! Now that said does anyone have ideas for my hallway/entry to make it look nice????

Ellen, you certainly have been a good sport in the face of some very passionate comments.

I see from your ideabooks that you really like gold. How about starting a new ideabook for entry spaces?

The single best idea is Sophie's albeit bluntly stated. Hire a designer, stay out of the stores, and off the internet. A pro can keep you from going broke on returns, is an ally, not a dictator, but is one who will help you see every design decision in the context of a WHOLE. For now.....resist the urge to buy anything, make some phone calls instead.. : )

I think art, no table there to narrow the space.

Sorry, but that table is fugly!!! Can you return it? Now if you were to paint it to look like wood, then it wouldn’t be so bad. Or you could always throw a table cloth over the top of it. Or try selling it on Craigslist.

Please let me give you a virtual hug. It's okay. Please pay the restocking fee and move forward.

I don't think I would put any furniture in that space. Maybe some small wall pictures, decoration or leave it blank. If you put a table in that location it will be a magnet for mail, keys and general junk that finds it's way in the front door. I suggest using that saved money for a superior entry rug.

I have to tell you that I share your pain. I bought a chandelier and sconces for my new home. I showed it to Flo and she shot it down. I too, like gold and I had a new home that was oil-rubbed bronze. I thought I was putting in a pop of eccentricity. Apparently my expression landed with a thud. I was in luck, I could stop the order before it shipped.

If we don't make mistakes, it means we aren't trying.

My suggestion is no furniture, just a different rug. You don’t have to fill up walls to make a statement. Your dining area at the end of the entry is beautiful…put something on the floor to lead the eye into it.

It seems you need a piece that could offer more "top surface" and storage. I think this piece would look better in your home in a pewter/silver or gunmetal color. But I don't think it fits your home. Unfortunately I don't think you'll like it in a year let alone 5 years. See if they'll take it back if you buy something else. The rug doesn't go with the console or your home either. Good luck to you, have a good weekend!

I would have bought that table in either color, placed it in my hall and had the exact same problem. I completely understand how it followed you home. (I want a skin like that too.)

The best money to be spent here, is to unify the flooring to hardwood in the kitchen. Then a phone call to a designer.

I’m not a “pro” although maybe I could buy that title but I think the tile in your kitchen is gorgeous and I think “bland” and “generic” are unwarranted and unfair terms to describe your lovely home. I think everyone loves to fawn over “unique” homes that are 30, 40, 50 years old when those homes were just towing the trend lines too when they were built. Every time period has popular, prominent looks, they don’t magically become original 30 years after the fact. Sorry, rant. I’d say pick something you love that’s a little less dramatic and that the fam is happy with and just enjoy! Who cares about the “pros”?

I think a gold antique framed mirror collage above would look great and since you have the hide there some antler piece on the table and I'm thinking a darker accent wall like a navy blue, some books in light colors in a pile and it would all look great, the table is really bold so keeping with that on the top wall with thick frames would make the whole wall a standout instead of just the table, and a darker wall to highlight the shine, maybe try it, before you finalize a decision to return, you can do this!!

Hey, I just caught up on the comments, I really don't think you should return the piece, people are going to notice it in your home it's so stylish, but if you were already deciding to move it I think it looks great in that spot in groveraxle pic between the two windows also, if you moved it there, I think this spot you could accomplish something like this with a round table and would go good with your hide.

The navy blue wall, or something else dark, dramatic

maybe with two animal print ottomans on either side. I hope you keep it everyone who is saying it doesn't go obviously need to understand this site is mostly for projects we are working on so if something doesn't go yet doesn't mean the end of your vision, it's the beginning!

you can add a large gold nugget as simple as spray painting a large rock to pick up some of the table from the bottom and just stopping flat. That with some books, antler piece, and a spot to place your purse and some ottomans I would put up first, then decide to paint, if you top it with a white fur piece will bring it more together with the rug and antler piece I suggested, if it doesn't work out maybe next year try it in the dining room, if you sell it will go quick.
