Need advice- chimney in my kitchen

We are renovating our kitchen and taking down the wall between our dining room and kitchen. In the center of the existing wall runs our burner chimney. We really like the exposed brick and want to incorporate it into our design. However, the chimney is basically in the center of the the two rooms and I am not sure how to incorporate it? I was thinking of putting our 36in cook top and ventilation hood in front of it in the island (making it the heart of the kitchen). The problem is the cook top and Hood are 36 inches and the chimney is 20.5 inches- so the cook top and Hood will stick out on each side? Do you all think this will look unpleasant?

It's tough to say at this point; pictures would really help if you can post a few of your current space. Is that an option?

Your idea of incorporating the brick into the design is a great way to go! The stove sticking out will look a little unfinished; consider keeping or reconstructing enough of the wall on either side of the chimney to fit the stove properly. Just make sure you have a minimum of 36" on either side of the wall for comfortable clearance. If that is not an option, perhaps a few floating shelves upon the brick surface on the kitchen side and a mirror hung on the dining room side.

If the chimney is what I'm guessing, use it to anchor an island or peninsula. Do not put a cooktop there.
