This is a very interesting question. What’s most interesting is that a 12-foot long x 8 foot wide dining room is relatively small. But! This is still a great opportunity to add creative lighting that will give character to your space. Usually, there is a rule that if you start with a room that has an average square footage of 150 sq. then the diameter of your chandelier should atleast be 2 feet wide. Therefore, I would recommend a fixture that is adjustable (Adjustable Height Chandeliers). Try searching Houzz, Wayfair, or any other websites that appeals to you and your style.

For a 10' ceiling a good starting point would be to have a fixture about/around 36'' total (including the chain). As far as width or depth goes, that depends on the space and is personal preference.
