My apricots just today showed signs of Plum Curculio egg laying. I guess I waited too long. I normally bag them but thought that in years past the fuzzy fruits got hit last. I find it usually too windy to spray anything this time of year. Surround will work but it can be hard to spray without a fancy agitator/sprayer unit. I put a glass marble into the tank on my hand pump spray bottle and try my best to get an even coat without looking like too much of an idiot.

I figured they were close to arriving, but havent seen any on my peach yet. Then again, I can never find the adults on the plant.

What stage is your apricot at? My peach is somewhere between petal fall and shuck split.

I wish NC State extension had a degree day model or alerts for these things.

One apricot is ahead of the others, its fruit is already quarter-sized, the rest are just under dime-sized. My Elberta peach always has messed up petals and is just now with mostly petals fallen. My Nectarine is still in full bloom and has been for weeks and weeks, I don't know if it will ever drop petals and make fruit. Last year it made a bunch but few made it to maturity. I am determined to grow Nectarines and Apricots even if I have to sit out there with a blow dryer to keep them warm. The only idiot proof fruiting plants I have are figs (frozen back hard this year), American persimmons, kiwis (fuzzy and hardy), pawpaws, goumi and pineapple guavas. Most everything else needs to be sprayed. This is the first year to get nice blooms on some of my hawthornes but I can now see that they all have Cedar/hawthorne rust disease - oh well, it just means I'll have more room for apricots.

So, just as an update. I've been keeping my trees covered in Surround WP since just after petal fall and that seems to have kept away the plum curculio for now. I have zero damage to fruits at this point. I've also sprayed spinosad 2x since petal fall, but I just read that isn't effective for PC, so either the Surround WP is working or they are not present this year. I doubt the latter, since I had some PC damage last year.
